Chapter 5 - Incinerate
I couldn't help but feel lonely at my whole situation. This whole time I had been mourning a man that I loved only for him to leave me on his own accord. On top of that, I strung along another innocent guy that was only ever sweet to me. Yes ladies and gentleman, Orion Lance is on a roll today.
I decided to head out into the kitchen and make myself some breakfast. My thoughts always seemed to suffocate me.
"Alright, looks like we got ourselves a party." I hear a feminine voice announce from the corner of my living room. She seemed to have some sort of British accent to her.
I yell in response, not knowing who the heck could have gotten in my apartment. I see her sitting comfortably on the leather loveseat, her legs neatly crossed over each other.
"Always love when they yell." She stood up from her seat. She sported long neon-blue hair and a black attire with knee-high boots. This chick was something else.
"What are you doing in my apartment?! I'm calling the cops." I warned her.
"Oh darling, no no no. That can't be a real threat! Seeing as your boyfriend is an escaped convict and all. Plus who announces they're calling the cops! I mean if you want to die on the spot, sure." She picked five grapes from my fruit basket on the island and stared at the ceiling pensively. "I always did wonder why that imbecile chose you. Never was a smart one. Well, anyways, past is for the weak, yeah? Alright, on we go." She walked towards the door.
"What are you talking about?" I began to see my knuckles whiten from the pressure.
"We must go, obviously. Do you not pull your head out of your ass once and a while, doll?" She squinted her eyes.
I stared at her confused. There was no way that I was going to walk out of that door with her.
"Who are you?" I questioned while picking up OB from the ground. He had been barking crazily this whole time.
The young woman smiled sweetly, she oddly reminded me of Fae. Girls are crazy.
"They call me Jinx."
I couldn't even begin to imagine how she had gotten that name.
"Arson! Come on now, finish up." She bit out the door. I looked over to see a young boy with large jugs of gasoline. He seemed young, too young to be doing illegal stuff. His brown eyes and shaggy hair hid his probably illicit background.
"He doesn't speak much, poor thing. Anyways, as you can see he was named quite bluntly. Save the tears for the ride."
"What are you doing! You wouldn't dare set my apartment on fire!"
"Look me in the eye and say that again." Jinx challenged.
"Please you can't do this! Everything I have, everything I've worked for. You can't just take it away from me. You can't!"
"Let's get one thing straight. You took everything from yourself the moment you decided to get involved with Alexion Ronan. A good fuck? All good and fancy. But now, you pay the price." She pulled out a black pistol and pointed it at my forehead.
"Now let's not make any of this harder than it should be, alright babe?" I gulped as I stared at the minuscule death machine. There is no sensation that could mimic the fear of being held at gunpoint.
For some reason there was no one out right now. It was early in the morning and every neighbor awoke when it hit at least nine A.M. OB began to growl at Jinx and attempted to wrestle his way out of my arms.
"I can't believe this is happening." I whispered as the young boy called Arson entered my home. He was going to incinerate my whole life away.
"I know it's all so horrible." Jinx pouted. "But we do need to buy us some time. Alexion messed up coming here. Man he is one big idiot."
"Where is he? Where is Alex?" Even now when I was looking death in the face, I couldn't help but remember Alex. Love is a curse.
"He's in a better place. No not dead, don't cry on me. He's in the safe house. We'll be heading there shortly. Right after we finish our job here. Are you done?" She yelled over at the young boy. "Good. Match away." She sighed and led me towards a luxurious black car with tinted windows. "I guess you can bring the dog. Ugly little thing."
OB growled ferociously at Jinx, making her roll her eyes.
I didn't want to look back, I simply felt my heart break as the roaring flames ignited and filled my ears with a haunting pain. This was it. They had single handedly destroyed my life and I haven't even had breakfast yet.
"Are you a part of some drug ring?" I whispered brokenly.
"A drug ring? What is this, child's play? I'm a part of something much bigger, doll. Arson, Alex, and many others are as well. Of course some recruits are less competent. But no. We are not a part of some kiddish version of a crime film." She tisked.
She leaned forward, eyes blazing into mine.
"We are a part of an empire."
