CHAPTER FIVE
rule #3┗︎━︎━︎━︎━︎━✩︎✮︎✩︎━︎━︎━︎━︎━︎┛︎
There were a set of rules that a man had to follow. It helped keep their friendships intact and almost served as a moral compass. The bro code was something every male knew. The male equivalent to the girl code, the bro code was made for specific reasons. Any failure to maintain those rules typically resulted in the ending of friendships and James Potter was known to love his friends fiercely.
So none of his friends would have expected James to break any of those rules. However, James hated the stupid rules of this so-called bro code. There was such a simple reason behind this. He broke one of the rules a long time ago.
Rule Number 3.
You must never get involved with your friend's sister or any female family member.
James had kept rules #1 and #2. He always had Sirius's back and had put him first for the past three years. But what was he supposed to do with the information Sirius dropped on the Hogwarts train? The girl he fancied was going to be betrothed to her childhood friend and fellow Slytherin. How did he expect him to react?
Should he be thankful Sirius never realized his true feelings? Or should he just come clean and tell him that he fancied his baby sister?
Either way, James knew that if he acted upon his feelings, he would have to choose. Choose between his best mate or the girl that had his heart. Someone would call him foolish for stressing over this when it was such an obvious choice. Many would choose their friend while others would choose the girl.
James wanted to have both.
Sirius was like the brother he never had. Someone who knew what he was planning without him saying a word. Carina Black was the person who made his heart beat too fast, sometimes it hurt. James had been unlucky with the fact that his best friend and the love of his life were siblings. Merlin, if he had to choose, he wasn't sure who he was exactly going to choose. Did that make him a terrible person?
James couldn't help but tug at his hair as if it would somehow help him get an answer. The page of the transfiguration book in front of him hadn't changed in the last thirty minutes.
Remus watched as James ran his hands through his hair for the tenth time during the past five minutes. He hadn't been paying attention to anything that Sirius was saying or reading his book. He had been like that for the past four months since the term began.
Remus always caught James looking in the direction of Carina Black. It was honestly a miracle that Sirius had remained so oblivious to James's feelings. But then again, it probably helped that Carina never gave James anything more than a couple of glances when they were within ten metres. He could tell that the female Black did hold some interest in his hazel-eyed friend when he wasn't looking.
