Carina wished that she was born into a different family. A family where they empathize the importance of love over connections. She knew since young that she could never love before marriage but she had hoped she would marry someone she could fall in love with; like Narcissa had two years ago. But when she found out her fiance would be Evan, she couldn't help but let go of those ideas. She and Evan both loved someone else; they both have known since first year. Her family would disown her if she acted upon her feelings while Evan couldn't love his person as the sole heir to his family. They would never be happy in their marriage.
The ring weighed down her left hand; serving as a remainder of what had happened over Yule.
Across the platform, her eyes looked at James Potter; he had already been staring at her. The smile on his face grew larger once he realized that she had been looking for him too. Carina wanted to hide so he wouldn't see the ring but she had to wear it in her parents' presence.
James looked so perfect even with his wild hair that Carina found it slightly annoying. If he wasn't a golden boy of Gryffindor, maybe she would have approached him but he was a lion and she was a snake.
Longtime rivals; both in their houses and bloodlines. Sometimes, Carina wished she wasn't a pureblood or a black.
James couldn't help but feel a slight spark of hope that Carina had found him amongst the students on the platform. He had done so much research over Yule that he could have been mistaken for a Ravenclaw during exams week. In looking at his family tree, he had found out about Dorea Black and Charlus Potter. Dorea hadn't been disowned when she married into the Potter family. That itself gave James the hope that he could possibly marry Carina. After all, the Potter family was still considered a respectful family.
He even had many conversions with his parents, explaining how he was planning on courting Sirius's sister with the intention of marriage. His mother couldn't have been more happy for James to finally reveal the name of the girl that had stolen his heart before his second year.
"Is that her, James?"
James smiled, "Yes mum, isn't she beautiful?"
Euphemia could only give her son a small smile. She had seen the ring on the girl's left hand. She had also heard the rumors of the Black family securing a marriage contract with the Rosiers, so it meant the girl her son loved had gotten engaged over Yule. Looking at how wide his smile was, Euphemia couldn't bear telling him that she was engaged.
