Third Person POV
(Y/N) was not the strongest demon slayer in the Corps. Nor was she the weakest. In fact, (Y/N) was one those people who never stuck out.

Staying amongst the masses was her lifestyle without even trying.

So what happened?

What caused Upper Moon Two to trip over his own legs and fall for her?

(Y/N) POV
"Shinobu, I'm fine. Really!" I exclaimed as the smaller woman wrapped bandages tightly around my ankle.

"I've seen many demon slayers who are not fine," Shinobu replied calmly, though the irk mark on her forehead said it all, "you are one of them."

Pouting, I folded my arms and looked away towards the wall, "I could have handled it by myself you know..." I trailed off, remembering the mission.

~Breath of Time~
/First Form, Rewind/

I felt dizzy. I could barely stand because of the pain. My vision was blurry and cold sweat dripped mixed with my own blood. It fell onto the ice below me and splattered like rain.

"Now now, darling~" a silvery, sing-song voice spoke from the darkness, "Please don't make this harder than it has to be... I hate seeing you hurt~"

The voice made me nauseous. I managed to spit out a few words without throwing up from the agony and disgust.

"Don't call me that, you bastard." I hissed as the wounds began to sting.

"Oh my... I will have to teach you some manners when we go home together~"

I forced myself to look at that face. The face of the demon I'd found myself fighting. It was hard to see as my vision became blurry.

But I noticed his eyes.

They were unlike any other eyes I'd ever see before. Even for a demon, they were so unusual.

Rainbows. Multicoloured. Iridescent.

Whatever you wanted to call them.

I felt mesmerised. So much so that I almost missed the kanji screaming to me 'Upper Moon Two'.

My katana fell from my hand, making a metallic clanking sound as it hit the ice. I couldn't fight anymore; I was so exhausted.

"Yeah right." Shinobu replied. The usual smile disappeared from her face and her tone went cold, "If your plan was to get killed, then I'd say it was going quite well then."

"Come on, Kocho-sama. At least I bought you time so he wouldn't get away." I added, a hint of hope in my voice.

Shinobu POV
I sighed at the girl's antics and shook my head, "He still got away, though. I fully blame myself for that."

"Well, I couldn't exactly run, could I?"

My eyes turned to (Y/N), who had a solemn look plastered to her face, "Why not? Why do you keep taking on your opponents even if they're stronger than you? Even when the odds are against you, time and time again?"

(Y/N) grinned, "That's just the beauty of it, eh? I don't care about how many demons I kill, really. All that matters is the lives I save!"

"But kill a demon saves 100 at the very least." I commented.

"Sure, but..." (Y/N) frowned, "It's the same concept as improvement, right? I think it's something like... improve every day, even if it's only be one percent. I'm going to become stronger, but I need to take baby steps. That way, I will know when I'm really ready."

??? POV
Her words surprised me. My heart began to beat faster again, just like when I first met her. A genuine smile graced my features and I clutched my chest and rocked back and forth.

"(Y/N)~" I sighed, "How I love you so... you're making me impatient~"

Shinobu POV
The corridor was dimly lit by the candle that I held in my hand. I dragged my feet across the floor and made my rounds through the mansion.

I came towards (Y/N)'s room and knocked on the door, "Are you awake, (Y/N)...?" I half-whispered half-yelled.

No response.

'Huh. That's odd, she's usually up quite late at times.'

I was inclined to think that she'd actually fallen asleep, but my instincts told me to check. So I opened the door.

And it was cold.

The window had been left wide open and the covered ripped away from the bed. The bitter breeze was the only thing left in there.

"(Y/N)?"

A/N: I'm sorry if there isn't actually much of Douma in here. I'll do a part two if anyone asks.
