Zay gets off the couch, massaging her hand, wincing. I squeezed it kind of hard. But this woman is trying to get me killed. She's becoming a fucking pain in my ass.
Not only did she escape again, but she took my phone and spoke with someone. And sent them our location. Oh, and the stupid fucking bitch cracked my screen.
Why do I feel so many mixed emotions toward her? She's done nothing but act up.
Not following the rules.
Putting herself and me at risk.
But then she looks at me with those hazel eyes and I'm like a puppy dog, down on my knees and bowing to anything she needs.
I need to focus. I can't let her beauty win again. She fooled me once. Made me lose sight. No more.
"Who did you speak with?" I say as calmly as I can.
She groans quietly, putting her hands by her sides. "Adam."
I growl, thundering toward her. She gasps and tries to step back but I grab her by the arms. "Why do you have to make things so damn difficult?"
Tears well in her eyes. "Because I'm not just going to sit around and be killed without the knowledge as to why. What the fuck did Adam get himself into for me to end up here, with you, in this cabin on a countdown to the end of my days?" She takes a shuddered breath. "Is that too much to ask?"
I can't help it. This girl is turning me to mush.
I release her but stay close, towering over her by a foot and a half.
Little half-pint.
"What did Adam see?" she whispers.
What does she mean? Adam saw nothing. He owes us money because...well, I don't know why. Since Natalia, I'm left out of a lot of meetings. This being one of them.
I was surprised they asked me to come along the other night. When Crew asked me to join them, I wasn't sure he was talking to me until he kicked my door in and told me to back a bag and get ready. It's not what I'm used to. Pulling the trigger and beating people is what I'm used to.
Watching her is not something a VP does. This is something Banks or Lip can do. Maybe even Judas.
But I sure am happy it's me.
Because she'd be dead if it were one of them.
Maybe we were meant to meet. Fated because of the ties we have to each other. Adam, he's the only tie we have. And Adam is the reason we're both cooped up in this cabin, mad at each other.
When she whispers the same question again. I frown. What did Adam see to force Zay and me together?
By the flicker in her eyes, she can tell I have no idea what she's taking about.
"Adam said he owes money because of something he saw, not something he did. So what did he see?" she repeats, like I didn't hear her the first time.
Our eyes are locked, as if the longer and harder we stare, maybe one of us can think of the answer. But it ain't going to work.
I need to make a phone call.
I take her hand and pull her to the kitchen, digging in a drawer beside the stove for the handcuffs.
Last time I used these were with Natalia; I tied her up and rode her good. Little did I know it was for her to study our hideouts. Cunt robbed us of our lives. Stole our homes and ruined our names. Now, she's gone and not a single soul misses her.
The handcuffs click into place around the handle of the fridge and Zay groans, trying to get her wrist loose. "Really?"
"I gotta make a phone call." I start walking off, then turn around with a smirk. "Don't go anywhere."
