Five minutes.

It took five minutes to reach the main housing for the pack. We'd broken all kinds of laws with the speeding we'd done. Cam's Jeep was on my tail all the way home. My Hummer was quick and surprisingly easily maneuverable since it was practically a box on wheels. My H3 turned into the driveway and I found a quick parking spot. Cam and I jumped out of the cars at almost the same time. I was already walking around the front of the main house, following the distance sounds of Sandy's protests. I had my gun in its holster and left it and my badge in the Hummer, but Cam had drawn hers. I saw Sandy in the yard on her knees while she screamed out in sobs before I saw the real reason I was home so early. Alexander had Dylan on the ground, curled in on himself to protect whatever he could. Alexander and his “Heathen Minions” as I found myself calling them, were beating him in every way they could. Two were in wolf form, one keeping an eye on Sandy who was so far into hysterics to be a threat to their little beating. The other one was snapping at Dylan, probably making sure he didn't get away and still getting his beating in.

My lip curled up in a silent snarl before the real thing ripped through my human throat, making every one within hearing range freeze on the spot. The sound was loud, echoing off the trees surrounding the territory and the house and treatment center walls. It was the single most startling and scary sound that has ever breached my eardrums and most certainly the first time it had ever come from my throat. It had every ounce of my Alpha control laced within it and my anger at them. They knew that I still had control and rules. Just because he was acting as the Alpha did not meant that Alexander could defy the rules I put in place when I became old enough to make the decisions and made abuse to other wolves unless they deserved punishment for a crime against pack law. Alexander looked up at me with a raised eyebrow, not caring that he had broken a rule that I, the blood Alpha of this pack, had set in place. He kicked Dylan in the abdomen as hard as he could before I reached him. I grabbed his shirt and yanked him down to my level so that I could look him in the eye. My nose brushed his because of how close we were. He was bent at an awkward and possibly uncomfortable position. I had let the snarl fade into a very menacing growl as I held him in place.

“What do you think you are doing?” I asked him through my teeth.

“Teaching that disrespectful mutt a lesson,” he said simply, not a trace of compassion in his eyes.

“That is not your place you insolent stray,” I said, spitting the last word in his face.

“As Alpha of this pack,” he said. “I beg to differ.”

“You know damn well that you are only holding my position as Alpha until my fathers wish that I have a mate before assuming the position. It is not your place to defy a rule that I set in place with the true Alpha's command.”

“You only hold true Alpha position because of blood.” Alexander said. “If I find a mate before you do I have full control over the pack and the only way you can have your place back is if you beat me in an Alpha's Challenge.”

I growled. “Listen you disrespectful cur,” I spat. “If I ever find out that you have harmed him again, I will kill you.”

I pushed him away with part of my Alpha strength to add effect to the command laced in my threat. I walked to Dylan, turning my back on Alexander. I knelt down and looked at Dylan. His eye was swelling underneath on his right cheek. He probably had some broken ribs and any internal bleeding would stop quickly. Important injuries were always the first thing we werewolves healed. He was bruised and bloody and hurt badly. I smiled at Dylan comfortingly.

“We have to stop meeting like this,” I said.

That earned me an attempt at a smile. I heard Cam shout and a gun shot. I turned protectively in front of Dylan and saw Alexander in mid-shift coming at me. I shifted on the spot, forget using my signature back-flip there was no time, I just felt the wolf in me peel through my human form. I caught him as he landed on me and Dylan had moved out of the way in just barely enough time. Alexander and I twisted in our wolf forms, when I nearly had him pinned his black furred form dart from the ground and head for Dylan who was struggling to get up with Cam's help.
