I'd shown my grandmother the video and she only gave me another confusing answer, though she showed a bit of surprise when I told her about the way he acted afterward and when he walked off. She agreed with me that I needed to talk to him and so I headed to my house immediately following the discussion and when I got home the house was quiet. I could hear him in his room, so I headed back to him. He was sitting cross-legged in the middle of the bed, I'd nearly moved in the room with him seeing as I spent most nights curled up under the covers with him. Seems without me there he has constant nightmares. Now he was leaned over on his knees, hands clasped loosely between his knees. He seemed to be in deep thought.
“Dylan?” I asked cautiously.
His head snapped up and he met my gaze guardedly. I looked at him with concern. “Dylan,” I said slowly, making it only half the question. “What's wrong?”
He started to speak but that fake smile tried to rear its unconvincing head so I cut him off. “No,” I said. “Don't tell me it's nothing because I know better. You're talking to the best cop in the area. Not to mention your best friend.”
I sat down next to him and waited patiently for his reply. A flash of emotion shot through his hazel-green eyes. They were bright today, but that emotion darkened them, made them sad. I touched his arm, “What is it?” I asked again.
He sighed, “I think I'm starting to like you more than I should.”
That whispered, teenage-like, reply nearly stunned me into silence. “What do you mean?” I asked, trying to push the subject.
He looked away then, not meeting my gaze. “It's not my place,” he said. “So don't worry about it.”
“Dylan,” I said almost as sadly, reaching up to turn his face to me. A light pressure of my hand on his cheek. “It's too late for that. Now tell me. You know you can tell me anything.”
He swallowed, “I don't know what's gotten into me,” he said quietly. “I want you. More than a friend. More than a best friend. In more ways than I should be allowed. And I don't understand any of it.”
'Oh thank God,' I thought to myself. 'I'm not deluding myself here. Hallelujah!'
“And I know it's not my place to want any of that.” He continued. “After all, I am the Omega and you are the Alpha. I don't have any right to even think about that. Let alone asking it of you.”
“You have every right to think it,” I said soothingly. “Even to ask it of me. You are not an Omega to me. You are just as strong as an Alpha wolf, maybe even as strong as me. Trust me on that. I've felt it. Why didn't you say anything?”
“I didn't say anything because I didn't, and still don't know what your reaction was,” he said. “And I didn't want to jeopardize our already comfortable relationship. I didn't want you to start pushing me away. You're pretty much all I have and I think I love you.”
I didn't realize I'd gone so still as he spoke. He'd been having the same conflict I had. I wonder how long it's been. “How long?” I whispered. “How long has this been going on?”
“Not long after I got here,” he murmured.
Okay, I'm not going crazy. I felt myself relax and a smile twitched on my lips. He'd felt me relax beside him and he looked up at me finally. That look triggered something I couldn't control. Knowing he wanted me too made my control weak. Catching him by surprise as I pushed him over, putting my weight on my arms as I leaned above him, pinning his wrists in my hands, just above his head. I didn't exactly have control over what I was doing, and with his admittance, I didn't care. He stared, wide eyed at me from his place on the bed, breathing nervously. I ran my nose under his jaw, breathing in his scent, pressing a kiss on his Adam's apple. It bobbed against my lips as he gulped. I was breathing shallowly, breath fanning over his neck as I ran my lips up to the soft spot of skin between his jaw. I whispered against his neck above his Adam's apple, “Tell me what you want.”
