Chapter 16

I couldn't sit still. Here I was, nervously waiting for my shift to end.

"Hey Aiden, did you-" Joanna stops and looks at me, raising an eyebrow. I was sat at the front desk, bouncing my leg up and down, while twirling a pen incessantly. I probably looked like a mad man.

"You good?" She asked, confused by my behavior. I quickly put the pen down and give her a nervous chuckle.

"Y-yeah, I'm fine!" I looked down to see my leg still bouncing and I use my hand to stop it, looking back up and smiling. She gives me this devious look. Oh no.

"I know what's this about~" She teases.

"Joanna no-"

"This young man got a date after this! Am I right?"

"That's not-"

"Ohhh you can't lie to me, this old woman knows and sees everything. Now, what's their name?" She continues teasing me. I groan.
Suddenly I hear the door open and I turn to go help them.

"Hello! Is there anything I can-" I'm caught off guard by seeing Nicolette, who in fact looks just as shocked as I do.

"Aiden, who are you- Evelyn! My sweet girl! You're finally back! You know, when that book took you more than two days to finish, I was worried!" Joanna said with a joking tone.

Evelyn?

I look back at Nicolette confused. Well I knew better than to assume she used her real name in the scene but, how does she know Joanna? Hell, how does she go to this library and I've never seen her!?

"I got busy so it took me a little longer to read" she says putting the book on the counter. God, even in her street clothes she looks so go- FOCUS AIDEN!

"Ah Aiden, you probably don't know her because she comes in early-around opening- while you're at classes. Actually she goes to NHU too, she just does her classes online. Hey, shouldn't you be graduating soon?" She asks Nicolette-I mean Evelyn.

"Next Semester actually" she confirms, taking glances at me every now and then.

She goes to school with me? What kind of fanfiction bullshit is this???

"You know, you two should be friends! He's only got some blue-haired delinquent" Joanna boasts, making Evelyn giggle. I'm sorry? Am I the only one fucking confused right now???

"U-um actually, we do know each other. Me and...her" I say stuttering nervously.

"Actually, we met at the coffee shop down the street, we're about to go get coffee right now in fact" she says, playing into the lie. I mean it's not really a lie... Joanna look at me, then her, then me again before suddenly exclaiming,

"OOH you're going on a date with Evelyn?! Oh my child, I'm so happy!" I sigh again.

"I said that's not-"

"Go! Go now! I'll clock you out- now shu!" She gestures to us to get going. Evelyn chuckles at her.

"Come on, let's get going" she says, taking my hand which causes me to blush.

"Oh! One last thing! Be sure to name one of yer children after me!!" Joanna screams.

"BYE JOANNA!" I scream back, hoping Evelyn didn't hear that.

"Soooo you work at the library huh? I was just going to drop off a book before meeting up with you" Evelyn explained, walking beside me.
