"Hello, fire hair."
Aloy jolted and turned around in the direction of the voice.
Nil appeared from behind the boulders that were bordering the path. He was not wearing his Red Teeth mask, and the pale moonlight was reflecting in his gray eyes. In the dark, the Tenakth Desert Clan face paint was making his expression hard to read.
"Do you still stalk people like this in the night? I would have thought that kind of behavior would be a thing of the past... What do you want?" she retorted.
He responded sardonically. "Is this how you greet an old friend?"
"Sorry Nil, I'm not in the mood," she sighed.
He grinned and tilted his head on the side. "Oh, I see. Did someone cause you some grief? Tell me. It's been too long since these hands have shed some warm blood."
Aloy snapped back. "I am very capable of defending myself if need be, thank you." She paused. "How did you know I was here?"
"Well, not everyone can fly on a Sunwing, so I knew you were here since the moment you arrived. But then I heard the turmoil with the Ravagers attacking the new arrivals earlier tonight, and I am always excited to watch a good fight. Those ladies sure know how to handle themselves."
"Of course they know. It's the Sunhawk and her Thrush from Meridian's Hunter Lodge."
"Yeah, that's what I thought. I recognized the tall brunette's outfit. I was surprised to see a Shadow Carja with her though, it is pleasant to see like-minded individuals around here. Especially when they fight so boldly, it was a real sight for sore eyes. She could almost measure up with you..." He smiled lopsidedly, obviously provoking her.
She did not fall for it, even if she couldn't hide her irritation at the comment. The new girl, measuring up in combat? Ha! As if getting her claws on Erend was not enough!
But she did not let her thoughts transpire, never in the world she would give Nil that satisfaction. So, she chose to let it slip and just react to his assumptions on Shirin's supposed affiliation. After all, Nil was a kestrel soldier in the Mad King's army during the war, so it made sense he was so interested.
"She's not a Shadow Carja. Not anymore."
He did not sound convinced. "Oh, and how can you be so sure? She surely looked like it."
Aloy paused again. Actually, she had no idea. She was just relying on Talanah's story and opinion so far. Surely that was enough, but Aloy was usually a bit more prudent in her judgment.
On the other hand, if Shirin liked Erend, she could only be a good person... Right? Erend had the sweetest and kindest soul under his rugged appearance...
...Well, even his appearance wasn't so rugged after all... His soft eyes, his plumped lips, his adorable smile, his intoxicating smell, his broad stature, his large hands that would feel so good on her skin... Aloy started to feel the shivers she felt earlier tonight.
