Lucy followed a group of about four students to the Charms classroom. She had heard them talking about the class, so she took her chances and followed them. Apparently, her risk paid off because she came to the small classroom and saw that on the blackboard, "Advanced Charms" was written. She looked around the rather small classroom and sat down next to a boy wearing a Gryffindor scarf. He had short brown hair, was rather tall, and was pretty skinny and pale, though that did not make him any less attractive. He also seemed to have some mysterious scars on his arm that his robe almost hid, and though her curiosity was greatly peaked, Lucy knew better than to ask about them. She had some scars herself that she would not like to explain, and she didn't want to put the kid in that position. He sat back in his chair with an air of intelligence, but also carelessness. "Hello," she said to the boy, while waiting for the class to start. She was glad she could socialise with other people before class, because she really wanted to have someone she could fool around during boring lessons, and someone who could lend her notes if she somehow didn't get them.

"Hello, I'm Remus Lupin," said the boy, extending his hand. "I haven't seen you before, are you the new student Dumbledore mentioned?"

"Yes, I'm Lucy Day," Lucy said, taking his hand. "I'm in seventh year, you?"'

"Seventh too," Remus replied. "Are you American, by any chance?" Remus asked, taking in her accent, "and what house are you in?"

"Yes," Lucy replied simply. She realised that she would have to get used to that question if she wanted to live at Hogwarts in peace. "And Gryffindor." Their conversation was cut short by the teacher walking in the room. He was very short but looked very smart, and his face radiated with happiness.

"Good morning class," he said, with a jolly smile on his face, and he took attendance. when he go to Lucy's name, he stumbled a bit, recognising that this was a student he didn't. "Lucy Day? You must be the new student!" he called, and Lucy replied with a relaxed "I am, and present," and she raised her hand. The professor looked her over, but then went back to reading off the list of students. Once he seemed satisfied that everyone was there, he said, "Today we will be discussing the patronus charm." Lucy sighed and sat back in her chair, tuning out the kind professor. She had mastered the patronus charm once her parents had started using dementors as torture devices against muggles and muggle borns, and it had become a necessity for the safety of her soul.

Apparently, Remus had learned the spell too, because he had also gotten a look of boredom on his face. Lucy leaned over and whispered to Remus, "so what's your patrones?" Remus had a surprised look on his, but then whispered back,

"Ah, a wolf, yours?"

"You'll see," Lucy whispered back, ignoring the suspicious look on Remus's face. Se raised her hand and asked the short teacher, "sir, wouldn't it be more useful if we showed a practical demonstration?" Lucy's pride had, once again, gotten the best of her. It had happened more when she was little and didn't know better, but it still came out. She wasn't afraid to admit it, she was a talented witch. Very talented, she could easily best anyone in the room in a duel, perhaps even the professor. But now, she just wanted to let the teacher know that she was a very accomplished witch and did not need to catch up on the courses, due to false perceptions of the American education system.

"Would you like to try, Ms. Day?" he looked up at her, wondering what she was getting up to, and she could also grasp a little playfulness in his expression, wondering if a student could actually do it.

"Well, I just would," Lucy said, as she stood up. Quickly thinking of the happiest memory she could summon, one of her and her brother having one of their rare moments of free time together, she carefully said, "expecto petronum."
