The Irony Of Blood

Chapter 1. The Aftermath

“Hi,My name is Skylarr Adeen. I stand here before you today because I lost my best friend recently.” I mutter shyly and quickly sit back in my seat, silently cursing my parents for making me come to this group.

“Hi Skylarr” they all echo then it moves onto the next kid, a tall skinny kid with long black hair, multiple facial piercings and  bags under his eyes from such lack of sleep you would think he’d be Edward Cullen. He introduces himself as Jules Woodster, he stares back at me(since when did I start staring?) from across the room with intense green eyes. My heart speeds up slightly and he sits back down, breaking eye contact and I stare at my feet as if they were the most interesting things on earth. Soon enough everyone had introduced themselves, some going into further detail of why they were here, few even breaking down crying. Soon enough an hour had passed and I high tailed out of there.

“Hey Skylarr!” I hear someone call from behind me and I turn, catching a glimpse of those magnificent green eyes again. “Want to go for some frozen yogurt? Some of the others are going to this new place around the corner.” Jules cracks a slight smile, something I didnt expect from him.

“I’m sorry but I kind of need to get home..” I say nervously, looking down and tugging at my sleeve as if it would move down further.

His smile falls into a frown at this. “Alright. Maybe another time.” He pats my shoulder and goes to catch up with the rest of the kids. I watch him and then turn once more, walking the rest of the way to my small Poniac Vibe, opening the door and getting in.

The familiar smell of fast food and old car fresheners greet me as I sit down and plug my ipod touch into the radio panel. I start the car and the words of Dead by My Chemical Romance blast as I speedily pull my car out and speed to the familiar road I live on, pulling into the driveway and get out, taking my iPod with me.

I immediately head to my room the second I enter the house, dodging my mothers demanding questions of how the meeting went. Plugging in my iPod once more and shedding a few layers I lay down on my bed, singing along to my music, closing my eyes and disappearing from the world

“Skylarr wake up.” I hear being coaxed and my eyes blink open, revealing Andrea standing above me.

“Andrea!” I shout happily and she disappears and I feel my heart break slightly.

“SKYLARR DINNERS READY DEAR!” my mother screams from below and I slowly get up, turning off my music and making sure my sleeves cover my arms before I make my way downstairs, the smell of meatloaf greeting my nose.

“It smells great mom” I greet her, taking out plates and putting them around the table as she comes around placing down the silverware. I get the platter and place it in the middle of the table and my mother places the sides of carrots and mashed potatoes around it as my dad comes into the room, on cue and sits down in his place. I get out our cups and my mother fills each one with water and she and I take our seats. My father dishes himself his food and my mother and I follow suit. We all eat, and once my father is done, he leaves, not a single word to either of us.

This is how it goes, every night. My mom and I get everything ready and then my father eats and leaves. and thats just how we like it. You see, the one time my father stayed, was a very bad night. He broke several dishes trying to help and talking...Lets just say it was never his thing. So every night mom and I make and clean up dinner. Sometimes I help her, or make it myself, sometimes I just help with preparations and clean up.

My mother left the kitchen, following my father. I raised an eyebrow at this then started cleaning up the dishes and putting away any leftovers I heard screaming coming from my father’s study and I turned off the faucet to hear.

“You never do anything! You said nothing, did nothing, when Skylarr came home crying and covered in blood, you just kept reading your paper! Whenever it comes to him you just find something else you have to do or ignore it completely! He’s your son Gerard, act like a father!”

“Oh, I do nothing?! Is that how you see it?! Who got the stupid fag to try out for the soccer team, to participate in society? Not you! You just let him sit there in his room all day letting him do and be nothing!”

“If thats how you feel about our son I want you out of here by morning.”  I hear something being thrown and my mother comes out to see the shocked look on my face.

“Did...Did you hear that?” she asks, doing all she can not to break down. I nod slowly before hugging her tightly.

“Mom..I’m here for you.” I tell her after a few minutes of her sobbing into my shoulder and me standing there trying to calm her down.

“I-I don’t know what I’d do without you Skylarr” she sniffles, moving back and giving me a small smile.

My alarm blares in my ear and I groan, leaning over and bashing the top of it repeatedly until I hit the right button and it turns off. Dragging myself out of bed, I turn on my music and make my way into the bathroom, showering quick and starting to brush my teeth with my favorite Toy Story toothbrush. Yes I know, its a kid toothbrush, but hey! You can’t deny the awesomeness of it. I make my way to the dresser and slip on my boxers, singing along to Time Travel by Never Shout Never, and pick out grey skinny jeans and a Falling In Reverse band tee, slipping them both on along with a pair of socks, a black hoodie and my converse.

I stumble down the stairs, singing along with the music thats blasting throughout the house and pour myself a box of Cocoa Puffs, saying my ‘Good Morning’s to my mother, who sits eating an egg at the table.

“Skylarr, I forgot to ask, how did your meeting go yesterday?” she asks.

“It went good. I think I made a friend.” I smile at her, shoving my mouth full of cereal.

“Thats good.” she says before going silent.

“Did Dad leave yet?” I ask minutes later to break the silence.

“Yes, sometime last night. Hopefully thats the last I’ll see him.” she says before saying, “You might want to hurry, you’re going to be late for school.” she says.

“Crap!” I swear and go into ninja mode, shoving the rest of my cereal into my mouth and putting it into the sink and grabbing my backpack, running out the door before my mother can lecture me on not swearing. I get into my car and am about to leave when she knocks on the passenger window, I roll it down. “Yes wonderful mother of mine?” I ask nervously.

She puts the ipod on the passenger seat through the window. “You forgot this.” she says.

“Thanks mom!” I say with a smile, she backs away and then I start the car, heading for school.

Time to face hell.
