I hurriedly walked to the restaurant where Peter worked. Once I got there I slid into an empty seat and awaited his arrival. I saw Peter and waved him over. His smile was warm and his messy blonde hair almost covered his emerald green eyes.
"Long time no see, Scarlet," he chuckled playfully.
He tried to seem happy to see me but his eyes told me he was tired. Still I entertained his act.
"I guess it's been such a long time since I came here for dinner last night," I said sarcastically.
"So what can I get you to eat," he said going back to his job.
"Just the usual baked salmon and rice," I said, fulfilling my original purpose for being here. He scribbled down my order on his small notepad.
"Seriously, you're not going to get anything different?" He said jokingly.
"Nope!"
"Fine, your order will be here soon," he sighed dramatically. I rolled my eyes playfully and looked at the clock on the other side of the room. Almost seven, I thought to myself. I had gotten a letter a few days ago from an anonymous sender saying to meet them at the 'Crook's' tavern tonight. Soon enough, my food arrived. My rice still steaming and my salmon still hot. I quickly gobbled it up, despite the heat, and went to meet with the mysterious sender. I walked across the town square and towards the forest to a small wooden house that was the tavern. I pulled up the hood of my soft, red, velvet cloak and rubbed the gold embroidery between my fingers before I entered. I opened the door and walked across the room with silent footsteps. A hush fell over the tavern, with the Red Killer's entrance; words died away on the lips of the patrons. Once I sat across from a black hooded figure, the regular noisiness of the pub returned. Even in my human form I could still smell him, his scent standing out from all the rest with how clean it was; not salty with sweat or musty from the dirt of hard labor. Combined with the familiar scent of a foreign land, I knew that smell.
"Well hello, Zane." I said confidently.
"It never ceases to amaze me how you do that." He said with a smirk on his face.
" An assassin never reveals her secrets" I said jokingly.
"I assume you know about my letter"
"Why else would I be here?"
"Well I need someone to be taken care of".
"So who's the lucky duck I have the pleasure of killing?"
"Actually I have 3 targets"
"That'll cost ya."
"Actually I have a proposal for you."
"What kind of proposal?"
"Well... I know about your plan to inherit the throne..."
"Yes, go on."
"I also plan to inherit Ru'an"
"But Ru'an doesn't have a monarchy."
"Yes, but if I were to become Lord of O'khasis and reinstate the former empire..."
"O'khasis was blown to bits by Tu'lan forces."
"But if I can rebuild it... We could be unstoppable."
"We?"
"Yes we,.... Scarlet if our empires were to merge.... we could rule the world, we would never have to endure the pain that we went through before."
"What are you saying?"
"Scarlet Luna Dagger, would you marry me?"
I sat there in stunned silence as I thought over my response, but after all that has happened to me, I knew my answer.
"Yes, Zane Ro'meave... I will marry you "
"Good, now I need you to bring the leader of the Phoenix Alliance: Aphmau, her guard: Garroth, and her daughter: Alina, to me here in Tu'la"
"It's a done deal"
"Excellent, now goodbye Scarlet, and may the odds be ever in your favor."
"Same to you Zane, goodbye now."
I walked outside and leaned against the wall of the tavern. In all my life, I had never expected this to happen; I was going to marry Zane Ro'meave. I would also have to possibly kill a family to achieve my goals. But, as such is an assassin's life. Was my revenge really worth it? I shook the thought away, of course it was, after all I deserved it. Didn't I? I walked home, with only the moonlight to illuminate the way. What a twisted fairy tale, little red riding hood was marrying a wolf in sheep's clothing. I walked through the forest before I got to the cove. I then went inside and boarded my boat, "The Star-Drifter" or "drifter" as I called it. I went to the Captain's quarters and climbed into bed. I let myself drift off out of exhaustion; I had a deal to uphold, and I will not fail.Author's Note: hi, this is my first book and first chapter of it, I hope you like it.
