The next day, I got up early. I needed to get to school earlier to pin the list up and give the announcements to the receptionist to say over the intercom. I got in the shower before changing into my uniform and running down the stairs to see my mum reading the newspaper and sipping her coffee.
"You're up early?" She asked surprised and I smiled.
"Got lots to do at school this morning." I said grabbing a bowl and pouring cereal in.
"How did you and Harry get a long last night?" My mum asked and I frowned. She didn't look up from her paper though and I sighed.
"Okay I guess." I said and I heard her sigh.
"Louis..." She began but I cut her off.
"We are to different mum." I said taking a spoonful of cereal in my mouth.
"But Louis..." She began again but I shook my head.
"Just because he is in the same school mum, doesn't mean it is going to go back the way it was." I said standing up and walking round the table and kissed my mum cheeks.
"Louis he needs a friend." She said and I sighed.
"I am just not that person mum okay. You can't force me to be friends with him." I said and walked out the kitchen, grabbing my school bag and gym bag.
"See you after practice." I called and walked out, shutting the door and running to my car. I threw my bags in and dialed Niall's number.
"Yo, I am early today! So get your ass out in 5!" I said and I heard him laugh on the other end.
"You are either really early or really late. Make your mind up man!" He said and I chuckled, hanging up. A few minutes later, I pulled up in front of his house and he ran out the door to my car, carrying a onion bagel in hand.
"You're early! Never gave me chance to eat!" He said with a mouth full of food and I pulled a face.
"Oh Zayn asked if it was possible for you to pick him up. His car won't start." Niall mumbled and I nodded, turning right instead of left. We all lived close by to the school so it wasn't to far. As we were driving I noticed the familiar head of curls walking down the road with his hands in his pockets and I sighed. I couldn't help it. I did care and after what I saw yesterday, I felt sorry for him. So I pulled over.
"What you doing?" Niall asked looking at me confused and I smiled.
"Just wait here." I said and he nodded as I got out the car and ran towards Harry.
"Harry!" I called and he actually stopped to look at me.
"What do you want?" He grumbled and I smiled slightly.
"Need a ride?" I asked, pointing to the car and he stared at it.
"No." He said and I sighed.
"Harry I don't mind..." I said but he shook his head.
"I'm not getting in any car with you and your... friends." He said and I sighed, shaking my head.
"I was only trying to be nice. But what ever." I said and walked back to my car and got in. Niall looked at me funny and I sighed.
"I felt bad okay. I wanted to offer a ride." I said and drove off, seeing Harry standing there in the rear view mirror. I wish he would just stop being a jerk for once and let me help him. My mum's words were ringing in my head the whole way to Zayn's. He needs a friend. Why did she do this to me. The whole way to school, the two guys spoke none stop where I couldn't stop thinking what my mum said.
"Louis! You okay mate?" Niall asked and I nodded smiling.
"I'm fine, just thinking about the try out list and making sure we chose the right people." I said and his eyes lightened up.
"Did we make the team?" Zayn asked and I shrugged.
"We didn't?" Niall asked and I shrugged again.
"You aren't going to tell us are you?" Zayn asked and I grinned.
"You know me so well Zayn!" I said and the groaned as I parked in the car park, grabbing my bag.
"I will see you guys in Homeroom. I need to go do my duties for the morning!" I said and the laughed as they walked off to the others while I ran into school. I pinned the list up and then walked to the office to hand the announcements in. Once that was all done, I walked out the office and down the hallway but all of a sudden someone grabbed my arm and pulled me into a bathroom and locked the door. I spun round and saw Harry standing there leaning against the bathroom door.
"Oh so now you want to talk?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest and staring at him.
"Don't be sassy with me." He stated coldly and I rolled my eyes.
"So you pulled me into a bathroom, just so you could stare at me and be a asshole?" I asked and he sighed loudly.
"Why are you trying to be nice to me?" He asked and I raised my eyebrow at him.
"So I am not allowed to be nice to you? Okay then I won't be?" I said and he groaned in annoyance.
"What I mean is, why are you being nice to me after what you saw last night.?" He asked and I sighed.
"I don't know. I think I feel bad because of it?" I said and he rolled his eyes.
"Well don't." He said.
"Harry if you carry on like this, you won't have any friends at all." I said and he nodded.
"That's the point Louis. My 'friends' did this to me!!" He shouted as he pointed to himself.
"Do I look like them? Do I look like I am a drug addict? Do I seem like a bad ass to you? DO I HAVE TO PROVE MYSELF TO YOU!" I shouted the last sentence. He was getting on my nerves right now. I watched as he turned his gaze to the floor and kept it there.
"What did I ever do to lose you Harry?" I asked in a whisper and he looked up at me with sad eyes.
"You replaced me. I was becoming someone else and eventually you replaced me with that blonde kid..." He said and my eyes widened.
"Is that what you thought I did?" I asked and he nodded slowly, never looking at me.
"I didn't replace you. I needed a new friend Harry. I never saw you. We were in two different schools. You were in the high class posh area and I was here. We were two different people Harry." I said and he sighed.
"Yeah we were, but that never stopped us from being best friends in the first place." He said and I felt tears welling up but I pushed them back.
"It did when you moved schools." I said.
"Whatever. Just please let me be. I'm not prepared to hurt anyone but myself." He said and I frowned.
"You didn't just hurt yourself... You hurt me too." I said and pushed past him to open the door.
"Oh and just so you know, I will leave you alone. And I'm sorry for ever trying to be some sort of friend to you." With that I walked out and headed to homeroom. I sat next to Zayn and Niall and laughed as they basically tackled me to my chair.
"I can't believe we made the team!" Niall cheered and I laughed.
"That's why he didn't want to tell us! Spoil the surprise!" Zayn said messing my hair up and I whined, smacking his hand away. The door opened and I watched Harry walk in with his head down, eyes facing the floor. I knew I shouldn't feel guilty but I did. I didn't want it to end like that but what was I supposed to do? I glanced at him and he had his face buried in his arms with just his eyes sticking out. I saw his eyes move to me and he frowned. I couldn't help it, it just slipped as I mouthed the two words.
"I'm sorry."
