I have never worried about much in my life. Well I have, if you include the fact that my mum is a single parent and works really hard to keep the pair of us going but I guess we survive. Mum has a great job now so its not so worrying anymore. But what I am worried about, is Harry. I haven't seen him all day today and I was worrying that he has done something. The whole way through school, I was a nervous wreck. I was just waiting to see him pitch up sometime but he never did.
"Louis? Are you okay?" Eleanor asked as we walked to the lunch room together.
"Yeah, I am just tired. Was up late last night doing homework." I said, knowing its a lie but I wasn't just going to tell my girlfriend that I was worried sick about my former best friend and hoping that he didn't do something stupid last night after I gave him the money.
"It was Sunday Louis! You should of done your homework before that!" She said and I rolled my eyes. She likes telling me what to do.
"Well I was sort of busy this weekend love. You know I have a lot of things to do." I said, meaning the student body president thing. It might not seem like a lot of work, but there is a lot of responsibilities I need to keep in check.
"So anyways, as I was saying. That new kid, the one with all the tattoos and stuff. He is like the weirdest kid around. He doesn't talk to anyone, only glares at them. The other day he swore at a teacher and stormed out the classroom. Can you believe the nerve of that kid?" Eleanor asked and I rolled my eyes.
"Ever thought that he might have other problems? Maybe school is just some distraction to a problem? You never know until you get to know the man." I defended him.
"Have you spoken to him?" She asked and I nodded.
"Really? Then you must be the only person to actually talk to him." She said as we sat down at the lunch table.
"Well if you actually tried to talk to him, he might actually talk to you back." I said and she sighed, before starting a conversation with her friends. Niall and Zayn soon came and boy was I happy about that. Listening to girls talk about makeup and cute boys made me sick.
"You like you are ready to kill." Zayn said and I nodded.
"You have no idea!" I said and he chuckled.
"So that 'friend' of yours isn't here today." Niall stated and I glared at him.
"Will you stop with the attitude?" I asked and he held his hands up in mock surrender.
"Come on man, you have to admit he looks like a real prick!" Zayn said and I stood up abruptly.
"You have never even spoken to the boy! Don't judge on someone you don't know!" I snapped, before storming out the cafeteria. I knew people were watching me, because it all went rather quiet after that. I walked down the hallways till I came to the bathroom at the end and entered. I walked up to the sink, and rested my hands against it and looked down closing my eyes.
"People can be right idiots sometimes." I muttered to myself.
"No kidding." I jumped and almost screamed hearing someone talk to me. I looked around and noticed a stall door was shut.
"Who is it?" I asked. I heard shuffling from behind the door.
"Who wants to know?" He asked and I could recognize that voice anywhere.
"Harry?" I asked, walking towards the stall door. He didn't reply back and I sighed, sitting down outside the stall.
"I thought you didn't come today..." I whispered, knowing he was sitting by the door.
"I couldn't show myself..." He said and I frowned.
"What do you mean?" I asked. I heard him sigh before there was more shuffling from behind the door and soon I heard the click of the lock. I stood up and faced the door, watching him open it. I gasped at the sight of him. He had a black eye, all swollen and big. His lip was split open and he had several cuts and bruises lining his face.
"What happened?" I asked and he looked down.
"Its a long story." He said and I sighed.
"Come on, lets get you cleaned up..." I walked towards him but he stepped back.
"I am not going out there." He snapped but I shook my head.
"Then let me take you home..." I whispered as he stared at me with one eye, seeing the other was swollen shut.
"Why?" He asked and I frowned.
"Harry, you are obviously hurt and you can't lock yourself in this smelly bathroom all day." I said and he sighed. I held my hand out to him and smiled. He stared at me for a bit before finally grabbing his bag and walking past me. I sighed but followed him out the bathroom and down the hallway to the exit.
"Here, just wait at my car. I need to sign myself out." I said handing Harry the keys and he frowned looking at me.
"What?" I asked.
"You trust me with your car?" He asked and I frowned.
"I have never not trusted you before?" I said and he stared at me.
"Okay fine, just wait there then. I will be back now." I said taking the keys from him. It was weird. It was like he didn't trust himself. I walked to the office and smiled at the receptionist.
"Louis, what can I do for you?" She asked and I sighed.
"I have a family emergency. Can I please sign out?" I asked and she smiled.
"Usually we would have to have your parents phone us but because its you, you can get away with it once." She said and I smiled, thanking her. I signed the book and walked out the office.
"Louis!" I turned to see Niall, Zayn and Eleanor walking towards me. I rolled my eyes and began to walk away.
"Listen man! We are sorry we judged him! But its rather hard not too..." Zayn said as they caught up to me.
"Yeah babe, don't take it to heart." Eleanor said and I groaned.
"Listen okay. You might not like him but he was my best friend! I am not just going to let anyone back mouth if for the way he looks! There is a reason for all of it and if you can't spend time to get to know him, then you all seriously need better lives." I snapped and walked away, leaving the 3 to stand there with mouths hanging open. I finally walked out the main doors to see Harry sitting on the hood of my car. I felt annoyed and pissed off, so I just unlocked the car and gestured for him to get in. I gripped the steering wheel tightly as I pulled out the abandoned parking lot.
"Uh you okay?" Harry asked cautiously.
"Fine." I said as I drove down the road.
"Mum's home..." Harry said and I nodded.
"With your mum.." He said and again.
"That's fine. Unless you don't want to be around me then I will just drop you off." I said taking a deep breath to calm down.
"No its okay." He said softly and I nodded. I looked to the corner of my eye and could see his arm scattered with small bruises. I sighed knowing that was going to happen. I drove to Harry's house, still remembering how to get there from our childhood. Neither of us said a word to each other until I pulled into his driveway.
"You still remember how to get here?" Harry asked and I smiled.
"How could I forget? We spent some much time going to each others houses when we were younger!" I said and he chuckled slightly as we got out the car.
"Harry? What are you doing home so early?" I heard Anne call from what I remember was the living room. She stepped out and her face brightened when she saw me but it fell seeing Harry.
"What happened to you?" She asked but Harry just pushed past her and ran up the stairs.
"Louis?" She asked and I shrugged.
"He never told me anything." I said as I put my bag down by the door and made my way to the stairs.
"Louis! What are you doing out of school!?" I heard my mum shout and I sighed.
"Here to help Louis! If the school wants to know, its a family emergency." I said and walked up the stairs to check on Harry.
