We EVENTUALLY arrived at our destination: Long Island, NY, where Aurora and I were pretty much born and raised until moving to Manhattan when we were both ready.
And just in time! I checked the time on my phone, which read 6pm sharp. I sighed in relief. I drove up to the restaurant where Max and I decided to hold the party and parked the car in the parking lot.
I tossed a silk blindfold onto the Birthday Girl's lap. "Put it on." is all I said with a smirk as I got out of the car.
Aurora blinked. "Okay...?"
She placed the blindfold on and I opened the passenger door to help her out. She stumbled about, but I gently (and excitedly) lead her inside the restaurant.
When we entered,"Wait- I smell food... Hear music... Can feel the table covered in a tablecloth... Are we in a restaurant for some type of-"
I removed the blindfold off of her gently. The room was dark until the lights went on. She blinked to let her eyes adjust to the sudden bright lights in the restaurant. "What is going o-"
"SURPRISE!!!"
Looking around, she saw everyone she knew from family to friends popping up from their seats, surprising my best friend with full-on enthusiasm and happiness.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!"
"This was the secret you held back from me, hm?" Aurora asked me and I just gave a quirky smile that totally gave away the slight embarrassment I felt about holding back the party surprise.
"Yeah... It was not the easiest secret to hold..."
"Oh? It was not the only secret you held back from me." She smirks.
I sighed. "Fine. I was anxious about holding back the party surprise because I felt pressured to do so. I mean, you know me! I do not like to hold back or lie to people unless it is necessary! Surprisingly -and I am shocked-, I was able to hold back this one almost all day." I started fumbling with rings I wore on both my left and right ring fingers.
Aurora smiles. She brings me close for a tight embrace. "Thank you for this, Amiga. I love you."
"Love you too, Amiga."
"Now time for the fiesta to commence!" Maxwell exclaimed. I chuckled as Aurora happily hugged and greeted her family and friends.
The party went on until 9pm. God blessed my best friend with a special day.
