WHEN THE FIRST sunrays of the day kiss the heathland, when the greens and yellows hues filter through the trees, that's when the forest buzzes to life and the animals are out to forage and play. They move slowly, lolloping in their sweet way, nibbling at plants as they go. At the slightest noise they're up on their hind legs, seeing in more directions than Oni can. Sometimes, Oni watches them for a while, enjoying this art of creation that Eywa has crafted as if it were for her eyes only.
But today she hunts, A jocund congregation of green waved in the fragranced breeze, the lyrics of the trees, an ancient whispered song, sung for each passing soul as Oni drew a strong breath.
The air was cold against the back her throat, her stomach expanding with the added oxygen in her lungs as she held her bow in place, golden eyes tracking the Yerik she had been stalking for a couple of hours now.
Oni surrendered herself to Eywa, her stomach resting against the bark of a tall tree branch, strong legs wrapping around the trees limb to hold her firmly in place. Her tail swayed with minimal movement, the action occasionally tickling the back of her calf as she focused on the steady intake of her own breath.
Oni didn't see the yerik, she felt the entire woods and the target that calls to the bow and arrow. Oni knew that the bow and arrow we're only tools, and that she shot with her heart, willing the great mother to guide her hunt. She hardly notices the bow any longer, it's as if they have become one. This bow has been Onis steady hunting partner all these years, safe at her side. The arrows it launches fly straight and true, always right on target. She would feel less at ease walking these forests without it, guessing that some things become a part of you over time.
Oni slowly released the built-up oxygen in her lungs, and along with it the arrow within her bow.
"Sister!"
Startled, the yerik dodged the arrow, retractable fans on top of its head opening as it runs away, a startled rumbling sounding from its throat as it scurried off to another location within the forest.
Oni sighed, head softly hitting the tree branch as her tail flicked in irritation.
"Sister!" Aonung continued to yell, heavy footsteps cluelessly fumbling around the forest.
"Sist-"
"I am here Aonung," Oni announced, arms pushing her body weight up as she continued to descend the tree.
Blue eyes snapped up to hers. A small smile upon his face as he gazed at his eldest sister.
"skxawng!" he hissed lightly. "I was looking everywhere for you!"
"I'm sure you were." Oni rolled her eyes, shooting a stare at her brother as she slung her bow over her shoulder.
"You ruined my hunt." She exclaimed, her annoyed tone not going unnoticed by Aonung as he helplessly followed his sister like a lost Ilu, slapping away the native plants in his path, successfully creating a ruckus within the forest.
