ONI WONDERERS IF she would ever notice water if she had been born in the ocean with fins for limbs. She supposes then it would have been her air and she would have moved within it more easily than an Ikran in the sky.

Oni didn't have to work hard to keep up with her sister or take in air, but she did strain to do so. The qualities her younger sibling possessed were ones she had secretly desired she might develop.

Without having to think about the position of her arms or her tail, which was able to propel her effortlessly, Tsireya was able to move through the water with the ease of someone with fin-like forearms.

A quality in which Oni did not possess.

In the water, Oni's arms served the same purpose as her tail. She lacked fin-like arms to propel her ahead or a spade-like tale to drive her through the crystalline substance. She uses her hands, hips, and feat as propulsion. At a young age, Oni had come to understand that water does not pay attention to the movements produced, but nevertheless supports and flows all the same. Her limbs had to work twice as hard to keep up with her younger siblings, but she just had to adjust to being a forest girl in a seaside environment; gradually, moving through the depths of the ocean had become second nature to her.

As the sea exists in three dimensions more like rivers than as a body of water, Oni had grown aware of her currents. Schools of the living, or the creation that remained in her watery embrace, are contained inside them. Oni kept a safe space between herself and her sister—not too close, where she was sure she would be reprimanded for being overprotective, and not too far, in case the unlikely event that something should happen to her sister would occur.

While swimming, her sister's curly hair that wasn't braided to her head created a black halo about her as she busied herself with gathering shells. Oni periodically saw her sister choose pearls and shimmering shells that caught her attention to construct more hair beads for the both of them.

Oni was happy to watch her sister as smaller fish swam next to her, their fins gliding over her ribs as they moved. The sea moved like Eywa, the tenacious and watchful mother of Pandora. Oni had noticed it in the way the water rippled and the vibrant coral reef plants swung.

Oni managed to catch sight of a spiralling beauty with vibrant yellow patterns only after her palm had momentarily brushed over a shell. The shell had been reflected in her own yellow eyes, and when she grinned, her fangs flashed in the sunlight that penetrated the water.

Amongst her fascination with the brighter yellow shell, a nagging feeling had tugged at the depths of her stomach.

Oni peered about anxiously as she noticed her bond between her sister deteriorating, a warm feeling becoming chilly in the depths of her stomach,  her mouth managing to let off a few bubbles as she realised her sister was nowhere to be found.
