TW: Brief Violence, Self-Harm, Suicidal Thoughts

7:10 AMBear Creek, Alaska
The car ride had been silent and awkward, but at least Charlie didn't have eyes staring into the back of his neck. He looked to see the city limits sign for Bear Creek. It was the town that they would call home until Nick wasn't grounded anymore.
'Charlemaign,' Charlie heard as he looked out into the ocean. He heard that when Merfolk grew up landlocked, they finally came near a body of water, and it called for them to jump in. He pressed his forehead and hand on the window, looking longingly until the car turned away from the ocean.
He never knew that his father was a merfolk, and his mother would never tell him anything about him. Ever since he found out, he has wondered where his father was, if he had any siblings, and if they knew about his assistance. If they had known about him, they might have saved him from the harsh laws and rules of the human omegas.
He wondered if his mother hated him so much that she kept half of himself a secret from everyone. She had begun his fear of the water. Charlie never learned to swim because his mother said it was dangerous. Even if he learned how to swim, little parasites in the water would swim into his privates and eat him from the inside out. His mother liked to prank him a lot.
Charlie wondered what his forms were... as a witch, he didn't have a shifting form. However, with Merfolk's, you can have two. One would be the main one you can swim in the body of water with, which is the more known one. The second form could be an animal adapting well to water and land. As in capybara, seals, hippos, he wondered if he learned how to shift and if he could run away and live as his merman forms for the rest of his life. Humankind has never done anything nice to him.
He saw them passing over several bridges, creeks, and the river. This body of water didn't call to him as much as the ocean did, so Charlie wondered if whatever his father was, it would be an ocean variant.
Kent was a small town, but it at least had a McDonald's and several places to eat. This town looked so small. He didn't even see a gas station with a fast-food place attached. They drove for about 30 minutes until they stopped at a secluded lake with a doctor. There was just a little boat with a hand motor on it.
"Good luck, Nicholas," the driver said to Nick after he helped with all the luggage. Charlie hopped out of the SUV, and Kitty hugged his chest. "You're going to need it with this one,"
"Thank you. Jarret," Nick sighed, waving goodbye to him. Nick cranked up the motor and looked up at Charlie. "Could you get in the boat without disobeying me?" Nick muttered, reaching out his hand to help him down.
"Fine... but only because I want to sleep in a bed," Charlie huffed and glared at the hand before hugging Kitty tighter and hopping down, sitting the furthest away from Nick.
During the boat ride along the canal, Charlie tries to memorize the way so he can escape later. About 10 minutes into the boat ride, the canal leads out to a large body of water. A smaller island is in the middle of the body of water. Charlie assumes they have arrived as they pull up to a dock.
