I couldn’t look away. These eyes seemed to paralyze my body as they looked into my very essence. Not once in this time had it blinked. Finally, after what seemed like forever, the thing turned and looked back into the forest. After a brief moment, it turned around again to look at me and hesitantly retreated.

What the heck was that?! No one told me of any dangers in the forest that’s right behind my house!

I sighed and made a mental note to visit the landlord in the morning. I crawled back into bed, thinking about all of the things I had to do tomorrow; visit the landlord, enroll the twins in preschool, enroll myself in high school (ugh), and when the moving van arrives I have to unpack.

I told my friends. I took three of the pack members with me to go see who the new resident in town was.

Okay, loverboy, calm down. Everyone finds their mate eventually and it’s pretty convenient you found

yours now, my best friend Trevor told me.

Rose said. She’s gonna be so pissed.



Ugh, I groaned. I forgot about that. But it’ll be fine, I don’t care if she’s my mate, Lorelei and I will stay together.

Why do you even stay with her if you know she only uses you for the popularity?

Rose asked.

Trevor laughed. You wouldn’t get it Rose, it’s a guy thing.

She looked thoughtful for a moment, then gasped. Shame on you Alec Reed! I thought you were raised better than this! Your mom would be so mad at you if I told her! You’re disgusting, you disgust me!

I couldn’t help but burst out laughing as she tossed her snout in the air. She turned and glared at me.

Rose, I pity the guy that’s gonna be mated to you! I laughed. How could you not have known all this? After all, I am Alec Reed, most notorious player around. I said proudly.

She looked at me unnervingly. I can’t believe you’re proud of that! Trevor?! How could you let him become such a womanizer?!

Trevor smirked and shrugged. Yep, that’s my man. Rose furrowed her brow and took off running saying, I can’t believe my two best friends are womanizers! What happened to Alec the romantic and the ‘I want to wait until I find my mate’ Trevor?!

Matthew snorted from behind us. I forgot he was even here.

They’re long gone, he said. His words were more than true. When we reached the pack house I was surprised to find almost half the pack waiting for us.

Ugh, Rose must’ve went and ran her mouth. I scanned the room with my eyes, yep, there she was leaning against a wall with her arms folded. I walked back out the door and morphed back, put on some clothes, then went back inside.

“So… Rose tells us that you found your mate. Is this true?” My father asked.

I sighed. “Yeah dad I did.” His face lit up when I confirmed that I had, indeed, found my mate. Everyone cheered and crowded around to congratulate me; everyone except for Lorelei, who sat in the corner glaring at me.

“BUT,” I said to get everyone’s attention. “I have no intention of acknowledging her as such because I intend to stay with Lorelei.

Lorelei smiled at me and got up to stand by my side. My father growled low.

“What do you mean, Alec?! You know you can’t deny your mate! You have no choice! Lorelei will find her mate one day, how do you think he will feel? You both are not being fair to each other!” He yelled.

“Don’t you think I know that?! I don’t care, she’s just a human, she’s doing fine on her own, doesn’t even know I exist! And when Lorelei finds her mate it’s her decision whether or not she wants to go with him or not.” I told him.

He sighed and looked directly at me. “How do you know how she’s doing? You don’t know her! She may need someone there for her now or in the future. And when she does ‘know that you exist’ she’ll start to feel a pull towards you. You can’t stay away from your mate, son. It’s just not how things go.” He told me then walked away leaving a speechless me, Rose, Trevor, and Lorelei.

I woke up feeling pretty good, I took a shower and then woke up the twins. After they were dressed I fixed them some cereal and got myself dressed. I wore dark blue skinnies, a purple tank top with white flowers, and a white belt. I let my hair fall in its natural light brown curls and left my face natural, only wearing lip gloss.

  I went back downstairs and put on their shoes and I slipped on black ankle boots. I drove them over to the local daycare center and enrolled them in the preschool there. Surprisingly they told me that if I wanted, the girls could start today. So I left them there and drove to the high school, where I’d spend the rest of my senior year.

I walked through the empty halls, trying to find the main office. I walked around forever, up and down stairs, down hallways, turning corner after corner yet I still couldn’t find it. As I looked at the signs on the walls, I accidentally bumped into something hard and strong arms steadied me so that I wouldn’t fall.
