Jake's POV
—The Day of Nadia's Party—
I was in a peaceful slumber. My soft comforter felt extremely cozy. I was completely and utterly relaxed. That was until... "Hey Jake, shouldn't you be up by now ? I thought you had that one girl's birthday party tonight" my identical twin, Josh said interrupting my once relaxed state. CRAP. He was right, Nadia the girl who I sat next to in English had invited me to her birthday party. We talk occasionally during the class I had with her so I thought that it would be polite to accept her offer. Plus I will take any offer like this as an excuse to get out of my house.

"Uhm Josh... exactly how late am I?" He replied quickly, "Well if I remember correctly the party starts at 5:00 and it's currently 5:45, so I would believe that you are extremely late." Great now I'm in even deeper trouble than expected. God, I felt so bad, but it was my fault. That was because before taking what was supposed to be a short nap, I forgot to set an alarm which therefore allowed me to oversleep. I was already dreading going up to the door and having to explain why I was late.

I got up off my bed slowly, still sleepy from my extra long nap. I knew that I wanted to wear something decent, simple but not too fancy that it would take too long to find an outfit. So, I just put on some jeans and a button up, which was my go-to outfit. Of course I left a couple extra buttons undone which is my personal touch to it. I put on a few accessories like my favorite bracelets and some assorted rings. I had my shoes already laid out for when I would leave. The last thing I did to get ready was to put on deodorant and cologne. I definitely try my hardest not to be apart of the typical smelly teenage boy stereotype. Which I believe that I have succeeded in not being apart of.

The last thing I wanted was to forget her gift, considering it was already bad enough being now an hour late. I got her a book I remembered her talking about in English class that she wanted and a gift card to target. Once again taking the simple but effective route.

Before I went out the door I put on the shoes I had previously laid out for me when this moment came, and a light jacket just in case. As I walked out to my car I took a deep breath of the crisp fall air. Autumn is my favorite season for its beauty, the colors changing in the leaves and all of the other perfect small details were the reason for it. I hurried to open the car door and started the drive to the birthday girl's house.

Luckily the drive was quick. Her family's house was beautiful, and so was the forest that surrounded it. I forced myself to get out of the car, because like I said before, I was dreading to have to explain why I was late. But at least I am here now. I walked up the long pathway intentionally slow. But, it still was took quicker then I wanted it to. Then, I stood by the door for a bit and took a deep breath. I raised my hand slowly before it met the door to knock.

The knock was quickly answered by the long haired girl that I knew from English.  She greeted my by saying "Hey!! I'm glad you made it." I responded quickly and explained why it took me so long, "Hi. I am so sorry I am late, I forgot to set an alarm before I took a nap, and I ended up oversleeping." "Oh that's fine it happens to me all of the time, I'm just happy you are here now" she replied.  As she finished her sentence, I noticed a girl watching our conversation from the dinner table that was in close proximity from the door. She had not too short, not too long light brown hair and her eyes staring in my direction were captivating. "Did you guys already start supper? It is fine if you did" I asked trying to stop looking back at the girl. Nadia quickly stated "Yes, we're having steak. I hope that is okay." "Of course it is," I replied. Then I made my way to the long wooden table and sat diagonally to the curious girl.

The whole dinner I felt I had eyes on me, it wasn't an uncomfortable feeling, usually I don't like being looked at but this felt different. Instead of staring it was more of a soft gaze in my direction. While I enjoyed the dinner, I did some observing of my own. I noticed that the girl who watched me and Nadia's conversation and Nadia seemed to be really close friends. Besides that I also chimed in to the conversation once, and I swear I noticed the birthday girl's best friend's cheeks blush when I spoke.

The next thing was the cake, then after was presents. After we all finished Nadia's mom's cake we all entered their grand living room. We all sat in a small circle and watched as she opened her presents. Since her mom wanted to take pictures the person who's gift Nadia was opening would sit next to her. Soon it was her friend's turn. This was my first opportunity to get a really good idea of her. Wow, was all I could think. She got her a limited edition Nirvana album. This gift was two things:
1. Thoughtful- Now from the little conversation me and Nadia have had before I knew her favorite band of all time is Nirvana. So it was really sweet of her to apply that thought in her gift.
2. Expensive-  Now, if there is anything I know a lot about it's vinyl records.  That specific vinyl is a limited edition vinyl from the 90's, and things like that sell for big bucks. "Nadia must mean a lot to her" I thought.
After that Nadia opened up the card, and she read for a while so it must have been a long paragraph, a really sweet one I might add considering she had teared up multiple times while reading it. After she was done with the card they both gave each other a very sweet hug.  During that I did get a really good idea of what she was like. I could tell a few things, she is very kind and thoughtful with everything she does, she loves and cares about her friends and the people she surrounds herself with, and that she was absolutely beautiful. Now I'm not saying that I know 100%  that all of that is a fact besides her being beautiful because that was definite , but I'm saying I have a really strong feeling about it.

Right after, It was my turn.  So I went and sat by Nadia and simply told her, "Happy Birthday!" She smiled as I handed her the gift and she started to open it. "Oh my god!!! This is the book that I've wanted for a while! And a gift card ? You really didn't have to thank you so much." I smiled, "You're very welcome." The whole time I saw the beautiful girl smiling and glancing at me.

Shortly after the night was over, and I was in my car about to leave. As I turned on the car the song "Going to California" by Led Zeppelin started playing. Soon enough it got to the line:
"Someone told me there's a girl out there,
with love in her eyes,
and flowers in her hair"
I couldn't help but to think of the new girl I had met when those lyrics played through the stereo. Before I even realized it I was home. Just as I was about to enter my room my twin, Josh spoke "How'd it go?"
"Really good, better then I thought" I said with a well knowing smile and a rose tint spreading across my cheeks.

After I got ready for bed and put my pajamas on, as well had gotten comfy in my bed I got to thinking while I fell asleep. This girl wasn't even in the same book as me at the beginning of the day, no not even the same chapter. But, now I think somehow, we're both on the same page.
