Chapter TWENTY-SIX

"What about this one?". Jayson nudged at the blonde drawing his attention to an acrylic vase.

"She already has like three of those from wedding gifts". Cole shook his head. "Plus she isn't really a flower person".

Jayson let out a sigh followed by a slight nod. Cole had literally dragged him to the mall to shop for last minute gifts for his mom, but every gift the two boys saw the blonde always seemed to disagree on it.

"Ok stop. We've been walking around for the past hour and all you've done is disregard every gift that is really good". Cole tried to interrupt the brunette but Jayson pointed a finger at him which made the blonde shut up.

"Look Cole, it's not your fault you forgot your mom's birthday. You've been busy with school and other stuff it's understandable, but you also have to understand that she's your mom and anything you get her, she'll love it. Jayson explained with a reassuring smile.

"So stop stressing, please". Jayson muttered as he gently patted the blonde's head.

Cole's stiff shoulders had now relaxed a bit as he sucked in a breath of air and let it out slowly.
"Thanks I needed that".

"Good".

"What are you doing?". Cole asked the other boy who walked into a jewelry shop and he followed suit.

"Picking out a gift, Mama Becky is like a second mom to me you know". Jayson answered as the glanced over the set of jewelries.

Jewelry. Cole thought.

Cole's mom was a big fan of jewelry and the blonde had an idea of gifting the same thing to his mom, but his thoughts were all over the place.

A necklace wouldn't be so bad.

Maybe a complete set too.

Would she mind if I got her the same gift as Jayson, probably not.

"Stop overthinking it". Jayson said with a scowl on his face like he was reading Cole's mind.

"I wasn't!". Cole said defensively.
"I'm hungry, plus I don't think I'll find a good gift here".

"Hmm". Jayson hummed as he looked to the cashier to purchase the bib necklace he has bought.

Cole strolled out of the shop and waited for the brunette as he gradually got consumed in his thoughts. Not so long after Jayson exited the shop and the two left the mall and drove to a nearby burger place.

"You're not hungry?". Cole asked as he munched on his burger.

"I'm good". Jayson replied, his lip slightly tugging upwards as he watched Cole take big bits from the burger and let out a moan each time.

He was simping, so hard.

"Stop looking at me like that". Cole muttered as his cheeks got red.

"Like what?". Jayson feigned innocence.

"That look, you know what I'm talking about". Cole mumbled out his words as he chewed on his food.

"I don't, tell me". Jayson quirk a brow at the blonde.

"You know what I'm talking about Jay". Cole hissed at the other boy as he took a sip of his milkshake. "It's making me uncomfortable".

"Hmm, uncomfortable or hard?". Jayson smiled making his dimples pop.

"Fuck this, change of topic. Now". Cole demanded as he shifted awkwardly in his seat.

"I got early acceptances to college". Jayson said reaching over to clean the side of Cole's lip with his thumb.

The blonde stated blankly at the other boy still trying to process what happened. Jayson had acted on impulse and said impulse was a cute gesture granted but it made Cole unconsciously move away from Jayson's hand.

"What's wrong?". Jayson asked frowning slightly as he retracted his hand, Cole wasn't one to move away from his touch since he liked it alot.

"We're in public". Cole muttered. "We shouldn't be that close or else...".

"Oh yeah, sure". Jayson said. He was a little hurt but he understood where Cole was coming from, no public display of affection, they were still trying to figure their relationship out Cole especially, so Jayson shrugged it off.

"From NYU?". Cole asked.

"Yeah". Jayson answered. "I just have to keep my grades up".

"Dude that's amazing, I'm like a proud mama right now". Cole said excitedly.

"You're still serious about engineering?". Cole pushed his brows together with a small pout on his lips.

"Yeah". Jayson answered his eyes on Cole's lips before looking back at the blonde. "You're going there too right? You still don't know what to study yet?".

"Well... I wouldn't say I don't know I just.... don't know?". Cole laughed nervously as he finished his milkshake. "But I think it'll hit me soon enough".

"Hmm".

"Wait, I got it". Cole grinned.

"What to study?". Jayson asked a little confused.

"No what to get my mom for her birthday". Cole spoke again glancing at his phone and breathed a sigh of relief when he still had time left.

"Ok─".

"But we gotta go back to the mall". Cole chimed.

"Oh my God, you're paying for gas". Jayson scowled at the blonde as he got up and walked out.

"Hey wait up, I'll pay!".

"So do you like it". Cole beamed at his mom as she held her gift in her hand with a smile.

"Yes Cole, I like it. Love it even". Becky said as she put on her neck back massager and let out a sigh.

"Really a neck massager?". Jayson said with an amused smile on his face the same expression Harry had when Becky unboxed her gift.

"Yeah, I mean she is always complaining about her neck and that's because she works late and sleep in an awkward position. Then boom it hit me, neck and back massager". Cole explained. "Pretty genius huh?".

"Oh it's a cute gift". Jayson laughed as he gave Becky his gift.

"Aw, Jay this is beautiful". Becky gasped as she opened the box to a bib necklace adorned with emerald gems.

"You really didn't have too". Becky chimed as she opened her arms out to the brunette who walked right into them and embraced her in a hug.

"I wanted to". Jayson said.

"I didn't get a hug!". Cole whined making his mom to open her free arm to him which made the blonde grin widely as he hugged her.

"Thank you both very much". Becky muttered as she kissed both boys on their heads.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go try out my car". Becky bid the two farewell.

"Nice gift". Cole said.

"You too". Jayson responded. "Although mine is better".

"Cocky".

"Cheeky".

"Idiot".

"Dumbass".

Cole is a......challenging character to write. Most of you might not understand him but I'm trying to make their reaction kind of realistic in a way....so yeah.
At times it may be difficult to understand them Cole especially but you'll get it.
