There's a rustling in the bush nearby. It's probably just a squirrel, but what if it's not?
Leaves from the tree fell before me, I watched as they hit the ground and remembered.
I jolted my head up, realizing the rustling wasn't coming from the bush.
I leap out of the way as a net falls, the edge of the metal net scrapes my leg, tearing a rather large chunk of flesh from my calf.
I'm lucky to have gotten away from this at all.
Those hunters are ruthless. They're willing to try anything if it'll get them their human paycheck.
I move quickly through the trees, my leg bleeding a trail of death behind me.
This has to be the end. Those terrible monsters can smell it already, I'm sure.
My vision is fading, but maybe if I can get back to camp, maybe then I'll be alright.
It's about 50 yards.
Im so dizzy. My leg is barely moving, and the adrenaline is wearing off.
I can't see.
I fall forward, waiting to hit the cold ground. At least no one found me. At least I get to die knowing I was never a slave to the vampire class.
At least I get to see my family again.
I close my eyes and picture my family. Before vampires revealed themselves to the public, before they launched their attack.
My mother, her golden hair floating in the wind. My father, his stern look softened when he saw me. My sister, wearing her signature pink fuzzy hat with the flower embroidered on it. She could never get enough of that thing.
I can rest now.
I can join them.
I hear a thud.
It's my time.
