A refreshing breeze gently passed through the small town, momentarily cooling the heated summer air. Not that it did much for the young boy who had just fallen and scraped his knee. Salty liquid began to threaten an endless outpour near the corners of his eyes as the dull yet stinging pain began to spread throughout his knee. His doe-like hazel eyes scanned the area. His parents were nowhere to be seen. Tears began to travel down his cheeks. Helpless and alone, the young boy's wails were a cry for help.
A young girl peered curiously at the crying boy. She pondered on what could possibly be making him that upset. Taking one cautious glance at her distracted parents, she sneakily made her way over to him. Outstretching her tiny brown hand, she spoke, not knowing the words she was about to utter were going to stick with this boy for the rest of his life.
"Hi, my name is Ebony, do you need help? Let me help you and we can be best friends forever!"
The young boy had never had a "friend" before. Most of the kids in his kindergarten thought he was too weird to hang around with- not that he minded. He preferred his toy cars and picture books to the noisiness of his classmates. But maybe this girl could make the pain go away? Taking the chance, he stretched out his own hand and let the girl help him up.
"Ok," he whispered back in reply.
