Previously on Last Born Second Alive:The echo of the weapon meeting the floor sent an echo through the hall. I heard a voice sing out in my ears as I plunged into slumber once more.
"Scout, did you find something? Oh primus, we got to get them to medbay right away..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The echoing silence was all too familiar. Feeling nothing but the cold chill of the night on my twilight blue skin sent shivers up my spine. Distant thoughts mixed in an eerie blur, a static mist shrouding a memory so that it couldn't be relived. A serenity is so infinite it felt forsaken to decipher a precise end. Strange beeps for an instant crammed my ears, ringing like weeping spirits into my mind. How long had I been out for? Days? Perhaps weeks? A year even? It couldn't conceivably be a long period, could it be?
A chill sensation beset my body like a blizzard overflowing a populated metropolis. The sound of an eerie silence echoed in my ears like a vacant cave. My sights were dazzled by the presence of a dusk clay-gray ceiling greeting me. My psyche was dazed in a fully foreign cosmos unpaid to the weariness. My ears now stinging with the hum of its glares.
I could feel something soft comforting my being. It felt soft and restful like a colossal cushion or a plaything, filling my sanity with protection that I didn't want to flee from. The glows of dawn shawn bright, nonetheless, the feeling of being fatigued and drained of vitality befelled my form through a vertically sealed entry nearby in the left corner. An entry overlooking a vast lush oasis. Trees crammed to the brim with leaves of all forms and lengths, flowing lifelessly in the smooth steady breeze. Soils coated in vibrant green needles that would feel like the softest furs one would ever graze over. The skies that of radiant tints of crimson twilight fading in a dusk morning purple, an ultraviolet bright pink or magenta diverse with a blaze of seductive orange and red.
The chamber appeared so pure and high-tech as if the fume of dead flesh, the expansion of inhumanity, and the rot of decay of a forgotten world never existed. I tried to sit up on the bed, but I began to feel the dizziness again, so I carefully laid back down. Closing my eyes to help ease the dizziness.
Then I took notice of footsteps reaching into the room, distant at first then slowly drew closer with each measure. I unfurled my eyes slowly to see the source of the voice. An individual is seated on a stool beside me. I jolted back up into a sort of sitting position on the bed, shocked but also unnerve. A moral? A living moral! Am I dreaming up things? Is this actualality? Is this a dream? Could I be deceased? Am I looking at a phantom? They seemed to be startled too but also eased that I was awakened but surprised to see me up at this period of the day, but they seemed delighted that I was active and well. I just gazed at them for a short instant before scampering off the bed, utilizing it as a barrier between us. The person seemed to be surprised by my odd response, but then they spoke.
"Woah, woah. Easy there tiger. I'm not going to harm you. Don't worry, you're safe. Here, I brought you some blood if you desire it. You must be famished." They said, holding out a glass of what looked like blood, and smelt fresh at that too.
I was lost in thought for a moment but quickly snapped out of it. Glimpsing at my forearms for a moment, I noticed that my skin seemed to be a faint shade of muddied blue. I slowly eased myself closer to the bed, took the glass, and drank whatever was in it, but not too fast. I felt more alive than I ever had before and my skin turned into a vibrant shadow of blue. After finishing I gave them the glass, my hands and legs shaking a little.
"T-thank you," I said nervously.
"You're welcome. You know, for a second I thought you were a goner when you lost consciousness out there. I'm glad that I found you" she said calmly, then she set the empty glass on a nearby table, got a clipboard, and looked over a few things.
I gave myself a moment to settle down before lying on the bed once more. I couldn't ease the feeling but being so frightened. The woman in the chair could almost tell the state I was in, she then placed her right hand on my forearm.
"Hey, you are okay. You are safe here with me, for now at least. My name is Lillian. Don't worry, I noticed that your name was written on your left arm when I was examining you for any scars, so I now know you by name. Your Shadow Morningstar. Let's just say, a familiar of mine had found you but you were out cold when I got there. At that time, I took that opportune moment to examine you. When your results came back, they say you are healthful, and also something else as well" Lillian explained.
"Oh, I wonder what that could mean?" I thought.
"I do have a few questions to ask to just confirm something. They may seem strange to ask you but, have you been hearing tiny heartbeats at any point of your awakening at all? Any cravings for blood or any blackouts that may or may not result in a bloody scene without recollection of an event ever happening?" Lillian asked.
I laid my head back down on the bed so I could think about it for a moment. All the questions did seem rather odd but, all I could say was yes to all. By the wide-eyed look on Lillian's face, she held some kind of apprehension that was now confirmed to be right.
We both were silent for a moment, which felt like an eternity. The hush was beginning to seem slightly awkward for my fondness. It is a little unduly weird.
"Come to think of it, yeah. I've had something like that happen." I remembered.
"Oh, then that would explain it. However, I'm not sure quite how to explain this..." Lillian stated worriedly. Looking from me to the results and then back to me.
"Tell me anyway Lillian. I promise I'll try to be calm. You have my full attention, besides. I'm getting kind of nervous" I said.
"Well, if you say so. All I can say is congrats, you're pregnant..."
What?
My brain froze in an instant before I started feeling cold once more. I wished to inquire further queries but my mouth formed no words, my voice cut off from uttering anything. I was furthermore plunged into darkness once again.
To be continued...
