LIFE WITHIN THE HALLS
Sandra
Friday, 13th February, 10: 20 a.m.
When Victoria and I had left the prefects' room, we went to the cafeteria for breakfast snacks. That was the only way to unwind from the stress that was ongoing. Victoria chose yogurt with granola, and I got sliced apple with peanut butter.
"Will you come to tomorrow night's party?" Victoria asked as we moved out of the cafeteria, ambling down the corridor. First break had already been over twenty minutes ago.
"Night party?" My lips pursed. "You're hosting a night party tomorrow?"
"Nah! It's the Val's Day party hosted by the school," she replied.
"Really? But I heard nighttime parties were canceled."
She grabbed my arm to halt my pace. "Yes, but look!" She pointed to my left, where a red-designed poster was on the wall. "The School Magazine Society worked for like two semesters to get permission for this."
"Oh, I see," I scowled, feeling my mood sour.
A voice from behind jolted me out of my moody reverie. "We've been looking for you two, and you're here talking about tomorrow night's party," Jayden said, accompanied by Gideon. They both seemed eager to share something with us.
"Were you able to find anything about AnonymousX?" Victoria asked quickly.
"Yeah," Gideon replied. "Turns out, it's a girl."
"AnonymousX is a girl?" I exclaimed, incredulous. "A girl behind a vandalism account?"
"Not just any girl," Jayden said. "One of the resident students."
"And oh," Gideon added, his voice grave. "Just as I told Jayden, if I'm not mistaken, this girl who is behind the 'AnonymousX' account, is the same person who rented the car for Matthew Clark's escape. Which makes her also responsible for Hannah's death, Daniel's kidnapping, and setting up Mr. Bennett."
Could a girl be capable of such acts? It was difficult for me to fathom, but in a way, it made sense. Only a girl could kidnap Daniel and treat him with unexpected kindness, feeding him without harm. No guy would do that.
"Who do you three suspect?" I probed. "Anyone? Maybe?"
As they shared their guesses, a feeling of being watched tingled over me. I glanced over my shoulder, and a cold dread seeped up my spine. It was as though someone's eyes were drilling into the back of my head.
I leaned closer to the three, my voice almost imperceptible. "Did you guys feel that?" I asked.
Gideon's brow creased as he scanned the quiet hall before replying, "Feel what?"
"I'm I suppose to feel something?" Victoria looked around too.
"All I feel right now is fear," Jayden said. "My video can come put at any second in time."
I ushered them all into the prefects' room, the door closing with a click behind us.
"Someone's spying on us!"Jayden's phone beeped, breaking the tense silence in the room. He unlocked it, and his face turned pale as he informed us it was a message from AnonymousX.
"What does the message say?" I asked urgently.
He hesitated before showing us the screen. The message read: "You and your little investigation group should back off trying to find my identity, or else y the video of you and Ella goes viral. Note: I'm watching YOU FOUR!"
