Sunday 22nd January, 2023
7AM
Daylight was breaking as Issac woke. He reached for his glasses and gazed at the rising sun. "I have a feeling this day will be lovely." he sighed to himself. Then his calendar drew his attention. On todays date, it said CNY. "Oh my! This gets better and better." He rushed to Kendall's room to wake her up. "Kendall! Wake up! It's Chinese New Year and we have to get ready!" he said breathlessly - to an empty bed. Where could she have gotten to this early in the morning? He tip toed down stairs to see if she was there. A surprise for him - the room was decorated already! "What? What is this? Kendall?" Issac called. No answer, but he was certain he heard sniggering from behind something, somewhere. "This is not funny! Where is everyone?" By this time he was getting worried - nobody was anywhere! Even the family dog was hiding. He turned back towards the stairs, only to be tripped up by... a toy snake? "This day gets curiouser and curiouser." he said to himself.
