Alexi POV (the week after you died)

Father was sleeping in again.

I dragged myself to Fallon's room as snow gently fell, staining the castle windows with ice and frost.

I opened his door and saw my other siblings there.

Fallon noticed me and picked me up. "Heya, Alexi."

I didn't have anything to say so I just followed suit with my older siblings and tried to draw warmth from our oldest brother.

Fallon sighed and hugged us all, Keiko crying softly on his shoulder. "I know today's going to be hard. I can't imagine how you all must feel, but we must act strong for Father."

Yuki, our oldest sister and second-born to our parents nodded in agreement. "Indeed. Father needs us to be strong for our mother. The funeral is today. Everyone will be watching us."

"But why?" I finally piped up. "Why can't we just bury her in private? Not everyone needs to know our business!"

Gray patted my head with sorrow in his eyes. "Your mother did the world many great acts of service. She is more than deserving of the state funeral she will receive."

After getting dressed, Fallon told us to go downstairs so we could all have breakfast together.

"Psst! Alexi!" Keiji and Keiko motioned for me in the shadows. "Come on!"

"But Fallon said-"

"He won't care. Come on, let's go see what he's up to." Keiko grabbed my hand and the three of us ran towards the direction of our parent's room.  She handed me a weird looking instrument. "You're going to hide behind the curtains and eavesdrop. We'll also be able to hear through the walkie."

"Why me?"

Keiji pushed me into the room. "Because you're the smallest! Now go." The door closed softly behind me.

I grumbled with annoyance but the curiosity of what Fallon would say to our father overtook my bitterness of my siblings using me as the way to get gossip.

I moved in the shadows as Fallon approached our father's bedside, careful to avoid the squeaking wood.

"Dad?" Fallon sat down on the chair beside the large bed, not daring to move the curtains that surrounded the oval-shaped bed.

When he got no response, Fallon sighed. "Alright then. You know what today is, right?"

"Fallon, go away." Our father's croaking voice came. "If you know what today's day is, then you know why I can't."
