Thoughts raced through Lauren's head as she wandered through the crowded streets of Miami. What exactly was she even doing this for? Spontaneous acts had never been something that she did very often. Usually, all of her plans were sorted down to the exact moment. And now, as she wandered through the streets in search of the girl who was practically a stranger, she understood just why she didn't enjoy the whole spontaneous thing.
Lauren wasn't sure what exactly she was going to say to Camila when she gave her the book either. Or what she even expected out of doing it.
She had to admit, there was something about the girl that Lauren just couldn't shake off. But she knew absolutely nothing about her. Or if she was even into girls. While she was lost in her thought process, Lauren somehow managed to trip and land face first on the sidewalk.
"Fuck." The girl groaned, letting out a frustrated sigh. By this point, it was obvious that she wasn't going to find Camila. She peered down at her hands as she sat up, shaking her head when she saw that they were scratched up and stained with blood."This night just keeps getting better and better." She mumbled to herself sarcastically.
Picking up the book she had been carrying, Lauren ventured into a diner to clean herself up. It was practically empty, aside from a police officer who sat at a booth with his face covered up by the daily newspaper.
"Take a seat anywhere you'd like! I'll be with you in a minute." A voice called from the kitchen. Lauren sat the book down at a booth before heading into the bathroom.
Once all of the blood was gone, and all that remained was a few scratches on the palm of her hand, Lauren made her way back into the main part of the diner. As the aroma of coffee hit her, she decided she could at least stay for one cup.
A buzz from her pocket caused Lauren to pull out her phone.
11:13 p.m.
Ally: Everything okay?
11:14 p.m.
Lauren: All is good. Couldn't find her. I've got my keys, so go ahead and lock up.
Out of the corner of her eye, Lauren noticed a figure standing next to her. Assuming it was the waitress, she continued to type away as she ordered.
"Yeah, I'll take a cup of coffee, please. Black."
"Will that be all?" A familiar voice asked. Lauren's eyes slowly trailed up the body beside of her. She could have sworn that her heart skipped a beat when she was staring at the face of the last person she had expected to see.
Hailee.
The girl that had made Lauren realize who she truly was.
The first girl that Lauren had ever loved.
The girl that shattered Lauren's heart into a million pieces.
"Uh, no actually. I have somewhere that I need to be." Lauren spat out quickly, standing up from the booth."So I'll be taking it to go."
Obviously, Hailee picked up on Lauren's discomfort. The two of them hadn't talked in over four years, but the tension was still obvious. She simply nodded, making her way behind the counter.
When Lauren offered her a five dollar bill in exchange for the coffee, the girl simply shook her head.
"This one's on me, Laur." Hailee instead. A small, fake smile appeared on Lauren's face as she stuck the bill in the tip jar.
