AN: Normal AU, no sorcery or curses, just plain old Kento and his sweet little loving wife pining for each other amidst their hectic work schedules.
Your phone rang for the tenth time during your lunch break. You sighed and put down the bite of salad on your fork. As you brought the phone to your ear, you pinched the bridge of your nose. Some days you had to verbally remind yourself how much you loved your job. Today was one of those days.
There were important business meetings happening in your law firm all week and as the company's newest partner, your workload had nearly doubled in the last three months. You were used to a busy work schedule getting in the way of your personal time, but it was usually not your work schedule that was the interference.
Kento was a well-known business man on Wall Street. He made a name for himself after graduating from the Ivy League college of his parents' dreams. The two of you met at a merger party for a sister company four years ago and had been head over heels in love ever since.
Since your promotion, the two of you had shared most of your time asleep in bed. There were hurried good-morning kisses and goodbyes while you both got ready to head off to work. Even on the weekends, you were preparing for court and he had a business trip two weekends in a row.
You had been mentally preparing yourself all day to go home to an empty home again. Ken was on another business trip. Most women would be getting worried about the time he had spent away for work, but not you. The relationship between you and your husband was something people often envied of you both. Even in the times he was away, Nanami made you feel special and loved. He left you little surprises to find around your home, he would send you gifts with sweet messages, and every time he returned home, he doted on you nonstop.
As the day dwindled on, you began finishing up any business you needed to close out before the weekend. The last thing you wanted to do was give yourself more work to contribute to the Monday headache. Once you were satisfied with how much you'd gotten done, you left your office building for home. You turned the key in the lock of your front door and walked in, tucking your keys into your bag. The door clicked shut behind you and you strode towards the kitchen.
The soft lilt of music hit your ears. You froze, blinking in shock at the scene before you. There was a beautiful candlelit dinner set up on your table. The lights were dimmed to set a sensual mood that settled over your senses. Kento stood next to the table holding a bouquet of your favorite flowers in a blue button-down shirt accentuated with his favorite tie and khaki slacks.
"Ken," you whispered, feeling your bottom lip begin to quiver.
He walked over to you and cupped your cheek. "Don't cry, darling. I intended to surprise you, not upset you."
You giggled and nuzzled into his hand. "You did surprise me. I'm just so happy to see you."
Nanami smiled, a radiant sight not many were awarded, and dipped to kiss you deeply. His fingers brushed slightly into your hair as he held your face. He pulled back and held out his hand to you. You took it and he led you to the table. Always the gentleman, he pulled your chair out for you. You nodded a thank you and he gently helped you scoot up to the table. He walked over to the counter and put your flowers into a readied vase with water.
"I thought you weren't going to be home until tomorrow," you said.
Kento turned back to you holding a bottle of wine. "We settled the deal early, but I wanted to do something nice for you."
Your eyes sparkled at him as you felt a warmth spread through your chest. He poured your glass of wine and then his before sitting across from you at the table. He met your eyes and reached across the table for your hand. You placed it in his and he leaned over the table to place a kiss on the back of your hand.
"I'm so happy you're home," you sighed happily.
"Me too, darling. I missed you so much," he said. "And you've got me all weekend."
Your eyes lit up. "Really?!"
He nodded and grinned. "Yes. Since the trip ended sooner than we had planned, I have nothing on my schedule for the next two days."
You beamed a smile at him. He pulled his hand from yours and picked up his fork. His brown eyes flashed up at you and he grinned seeing your excitement.
"Don't let your food get cold. Besides, I have other plans for us tonight," he shrugged and began eating his dinner.
You giggled. "Oh, you do?"
He hummed and swallowed his food. "Unless you don't want me to massage every inch of your body and then make love to you like I did on our honeymoon."
A pink blush rose on your cheeks as goosebumps freckled your skin. You simply nodded and turned your attention to the plate in front of you.
