Alina's wings unfold sporadically as the stress crawls underneath her gray monstrous skin. The flapping of the wings causes the pillows to fly off to a corner. The nest corner. Quickly, quickly coming back into her senses, she abruptly stops the wings flapping. Alina walks to her nest and readjust the nest. "Mother, I know it's ridiculous that I'm trying to communicate with you, especially since you're home. But if you can hear, please listen. In a few hours everyone will know I exist. The volcra gifted with the ability to summon light from its hands. The sun summoner who gets harmed by her own abilities, the girl that almost killed her own mo-" The room's colorful design quickly covered in shadows. "Close your eyes and listen to my voice. My shadows might not be exactly like home, but embrace them like your home. Because at this moment they are your shadows. No one can force you out, drag out, push out, or disturb you. Let them help the burden of emotions building up, allow them to carry the weight for you." Alina shoulders drop into a more relaxed state, along with her wings folding softly behind. "Do you miss the fold?" She nods her head. Abruptly the shadows redraws into his hands. "I have some meetings to attend to." In the blink of an eye, the door was closed. Her wings begging for flight. A side effect of being in the human world, no time to fly around. That's really the only major downside, the second being Homesickness. And homesickness can't be cured, only weakened after years living in the new location, and the worst part? It will reclaim its strength when you visit your old home.
The door opened up, a man in red walking inside of her room."Volcra, I will escort you to the forest. The darkling wants you to be clean for the party." Alina carefully inspects the man's features, his bronze skin, and wavy brown hair, almost glowing from the lamp's light. "You don't have a choice." She happily applies and follows the young man. "I have his permission to make you go unconscious, so don't dare fly away." Alina lets out a laugh, like she is going to fly away. As they approached the forest, his grip only increased. "Release my arm, it's kinda hard to bathe with your grip on my arm." annoyed, he lets go of her arm. Alina immediately becomes more relaxed as the sand touches her skin. After a few rolls, flips, and throwing sand at the trickly locations, the bath was complete. "You're finished?" "Yes, mysterious human." The man shakes his head, "my name is ivan." The both of them walk silently back into her room. "Genya will arrive shortly with your dress." The door snaps shut. A dress? Sounds like some formal wear for a human female. Alina picks up a book on her shelf. The cursed king, fantasy and romance, a story about a witch who cursed the king to transform into a creature with that same greed, wings began to sprout from his back. A dragon. She places it back on the shelf as the door opens back up, this time the same servant from earlier, genya. "The darkling finished designing your dress, about thirty minutes ago, wanna try it?" Alina inspects the fine dress hanging loosely from Genya's arms, the majority of it being pitch black, apart from gold like bracelets on the wrists, the front bearing a pattern similar to the sun eclipse, golden straps, wide open back. "The darkling himself, really took some of his own personal time and made me a dress?" Alina lets out a giggle, "Didn't know he was a romantic." Her face softens, "That's a possibility that may be the case, however, it's probably because our dresses here won't fit volcra." Genya continued, "So wanna try it?" Alina nods.
"Take your right leg inside, then left leg, good. Unfold your wings, fold in, stretch your arms, good." Genya brought a small handheld mirror, its colors white and green. "Does it feel comfortable?" All Alina could think about were how the silk touched her curves, how the silk touched every right spot, almost feeling like a second skin. "It's okay, take your time." the sounds around her drying up, fading away into the nonexistent background, an unknown emotion to her could be felt inside. Surprise. During her seventeen years living in complete darkness, her home the fold, every human she encountered had the same reaction. The same old screams of pain, fear, the large amount of swears, their bodies violently shaking, the sound of sharp volcra teeth going smoothly in the fragile human body, nothing ever changed. Nothing in her seventeen years of darkness. Not even the black kefta, her kefta, surprised her. Alina had seen these types of cloth countless times during hunting with mother. The only thing different was the color, he was the first one she ever saw with black. "It's perfect." Genya swiftly instructed Alina to sit down on the seat in front of the makeup table. Would small sciences even work on a creature like her?
The servant opened one of the boxes on the table, the inside full of glass jars, each one filled with a different colored liquid. Some of them had the same consistency like water, some sticky as goo, and some lighter than clouds. Either humans were far more intelligent and developed civilization, or grisha were involved in the creation. Probably the second option. As genya tried to apply one cream with a lighter texture, her body rejected it, the blue substance covering the servant's hand. The smile wiped quickly off her face. "Is that supposed to happen, Genya? Are you still there?" Genya regains her senses, however distress was still highly visible. "Your body, i mean biology, fought against as i tried to tailor or put grisha makeup on." Alina quickly felt guilty for some reason. However, why? It's not like she fought against the process, she just relaxed. "It's not my fault it didn't work." "It was not meant to insult you, I'm sorry." silence slowly expanded into every inch. Alina, trying to reboot the conversation, suddenly got a great idea. "What about normal make up? Non grisha makeup, I mean." a smile crept up on the servant's face, the old genya was back. "That could work actually. I guess I could try this one?" Genya swiftly went back to work as the locked door opened up.
"What do you think? I tried to not remove too much volcra from your appearance." Alina picked up a handheld mirror laying in one of the drawers within the table. Her face still kept its gray features, but with one clear difference. The gray skin was more smooth, with faint amounts of white on the cheeks. To her eyes, it looked like a small amount of makeup was applied. But it could perhaps be more, she has never tried it before until today. "I don't know much about makeup, but this is clearly amazing!" the servant laughed a bit, then quickly responded. "It's not that much, the queen's makeup takes ten times as long. If I'm honest, before I come and fix her up, she looks like another human being." They both let out a loud laugh. "You only have ten minutes before the party starts, you should hurry up!" Before Alina could react, the door exploded open, the darkling appearing in a silk kefta. "You did an excellent job with her Genya, great choice to let her keep the volcra features. Now, shall we?" No turning back now. The entire world would know about the volcra called Alina.
"Just stay in close proximity to me, then nothing or no one will attempt to kill you." She didn't trust the man's word, she had a hard time trusting any human, but the way people acted around him was way enough proof. She would not be harmed. "I don't trust you, but I'll take your word." The darkling let out a sigh of annoyance, but his body hid it well. As they got closer to what seemed to be the final location, it got harder to ignore the feeling people were staring at her from every angle possible, taking a sneak peak of the darkling's new announcement. She can't blame them for being curious about the announcement can she? The door blasted open, every working pair of eyes snapping to the sight of the volcra. Why not go all the way in? She is already here anyway. She unfolds her wings for the world to witness. "VOLCRA!" The darkling's face sweet grace quickly tarnished, being traded for a deadly serious expression. "Everyone remains silent!" As the silence expanded, the room gradually began to feel more like the fold than a party. "An attack against her is the same as an attack against me. She holds the key for the future for all of ravka!" The darkling moved his head closer to her head, whispering something in her ear. "Summon sunlight." Ignoring the pain throughout her entire body, Alina lets out a bomb of light. Her light expanded to every corner in the massive room. Her black blood seeped everywhere on the floor, the marble taking a distinctive shade of black. The last thing she hears is the people whispering, "the rejected volcra."
