"Hey Cas." I say as I walk up to her and sit down.

"Hey Jackson" She says back.

"I got another detention"

"Seriously? By who? Was it Ms. Meyers?"

"Yep."

"Oh my god I hate her so much."

"I swear she is out to get me," I complained.

"I get that so much. I have her class right after lunch, and I am not looking forward to it." She says. She gets out a paper from her folder and starts to rapidly write on it.

"What are you writing there?"

"Quickly finishing the English project. I have Mr. Davis's class right after Ms. Meyers, and I haven't even started on it," she pauses for a second. "What the heck does this even mean?!" She exclaims.

"Maybe you should have paid attention when Mr. Davis explained how to do the assignment."

"Oh shut up Jackson!" She said as she hit my arm. I laughed and started to eat my lunch, when I got a text, and when I looked at it, it was from my mom. "My mom just texted me." I told Cassie.

"Really? What did she say?" Cas replied, looking up from her paper.

"She said, 'we are going out to dinner tonight with Emmett to bond or whatever'" I read the text aloud.

"Who's Emmett?" Cassie asked as I put my phone away

"My moms new boyfriend."

"Didn't she break up with her other one literally last week?"

"Yep. She goes through boys faster than a girl goes through pads"

"Can't you use a better metaphor?" Cassie asks

"Yeah but I can't think of one."

~~~
"So why do I have to do this?" I asked mom as I walked inside the restaurant.
"Because Emmett said that this would be a good bonding experience," She paused for a couple seconds before adding "also I want to get to know you better."
"I don't wanna get to know you." I say under my breath. We get inside and sit down at our table. I look at the menu, deciding what I want.
"So how was school?" My mom asks.
"It was fine. I have a detention tomorrow for being late though." I respond
"Now why were you late to school?"
"My bus was late and by the time I got to first period announcements were already over."
"That is no excuse. I don't wanna pick you up from detention." She says, annoyed.
"Ok? You never pick me up from anywhere anyways. I always have to ride the bus home or walk." I explain
"Fine, I'll pick you up from detention. Just stop begging me to do it." She says, blatantly disregarding what I said.
"Since when have you cared this much about me?" I asked
"What do you mean? I have always cared about you. I have bought you clothes when you need them, food because you need that, I think, and a bed for you to sleep in. What more can you ask for?"
"That's just the basic necessities! That's the basic requirements a child needs!" She slams her hand on the table and stands up.
"YOU ARE AN UNGRATEFUL CHILD! YOU NEED TO LEARN MANNERS BECAUSE YOU SHOULD BE GRATEFUL THAT I EVEN GIVE YOU THE THINGS YOU NEED!" She yells. We have the entire attention of the restaurant at this point.
"WELL MAYBE THAT'S NOT ENOUGH FOR ME, MAYBE I WANT THE LOVE OF A MOTHER WHO DOESN'T COME HOME WITH A NEW BOYFRIEND EVERY WEEK!" I was getting more and more angry. Angry tears slipped out. "I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT WITH YOU RIGHT NOW, I'M LEAVING." I yelled, and I stormed out of the restaurant. I didn't know where to go, or where I was going, but I just wanted to get away from my mom. I find an alley and just sit down against the wall and start crying.
"You know, you shouldn't be that mean to your mother," a random voice said. I immediately look up and look around.
"Who said that?" I ask
"Oh you can't see me, but I'm here to tell you that the world is out of balance, and I have been watching you, and you seem to be a fit to save it." The random voice said.
"Ok, so how do I do that?"
"You will find an important clue soon, and that should tell you where to go."
"Wait but what will the clue look like?"
"You'll know when you see it. I believe in you, Jackson Oliver Fox." I cringed at the use of my full name.
"Wait, don't go! I have a bunch more questions!!" But alas, the mysterious voice was already gone.
