The last couple of days, it had been raining relentlessly, and your parents had been pushing you to practice your hunting on your own. You hadn't been very successful without Neteyam, and on this particular day, you were feeling so damn tired and you felt the need to sit down for a moment. all you remember is finding a place to rest, and closing your eyes. 

when you woke up again, it was dark, and you were shivering intensely from the rain. You could faintly hear your name being called in the distance, and tried your best to yell back, but you were only able to utter out a small whisper. Eventually, you saw Neteyam in the distance, and you felt relief that at least someone might find you. You hoped he would.

*neteyams pov*
It had been hours since y/n  had went off to practice hunting on her own, and she hadn't returned. it was getting dark, and her family was getting worried, so a few of us men were sent out to find her. I was silently praying to Eywa while yelling her name, I needed to find her. It was raining very intensely in the forest, and the deeper I got, the colder it became. At this point, I was getting desperate, and losing hope. If I didn't find her now, something could happen to her, and I could never forgive myself if I wasn't there to protect her. I came across a clearing, and saw one of her arrows stuck in a tree, half pulled out. I scanned the ground for her, and there she was, by the base of a tree. I couldn't tell if she was breathing, and I ran over to her to check her pulse. She was shivering from the rain and the cold, but she was alive. I picked her up (bridal style😏) and ran her back to the home tree.

Neteyam arrived with worry all over his face, and a limp y/n in his arms, and he took her straight to Mo'at, the healer. He set her down with his grandmother, his hands holding hers, and she instructed him to dry her body off while she went to fetch blankets to warm her up. Neteyam gently ran a small towel over y/n, making sure to be thorough. His grandmother returned and told him to let her parents know she was back and safe, but he didn't want to leave her side. Jake and Neytiri had arrived by then, and Neytiri could see the look of worry across her sons face, so she volunteered to let y/n's parents know.

The next day, you woke up with Neteyam still by your side. As your eyes adjusted to the sunlight, you tried to pull yourself up, and that's when his attention fell on you. "Hey, hey it's okay, lie back down. I'm here, i'm right here". you teared up a little, frustrated that you didn't have any strength, and embarrassed that Neteyam had to save you from a little bit of rain. He noticed and wiped your cheek with his thumb, caressing your face for a moment. He then turned to his side to grab you water and a small serving of fruit that Mo'at told him to feed you, as it was supposed to make you feel better. You didn't feel much like eating, but you excepted the water.

All throughout the day, he kept trying to get you to eat, and eventually you had to give in because you hated to see him worried... you finished the fruit and rolled over to your side, still shivering from your intense cold. he laid down next you you, and he places a hand on your shoulder and rolls you over to face him, keeping your head cradled in his neck and chest. The two of you stayed like that until you stopped shivering , and he broke the silence by asking; "y/n do you want to stay like this? with me? i was excused from my work today..."
"i don't wanna get you sick too..." you whispered.
"Hey, my grandmother is Tsahìk, if i get sick she'll be able to heal me right away."

he begins to stroke your arm as you inch closer to his chest, craving the warmth his body gave off, and enjoying the moment you two were sharing.

When you woke up again, you noticed that Neteyam hadn't moved, but he was awake and staring down at you with a sweet, content expression on his face, his eyes were softened and he looked relaxed and happy. "neteyam, how long have you been awake??" you were afraid that he was bored laying there with you, and you felt guilty you weren't better company.
"i don't know, but i am happy to lay here with you. it must sound dumb, but i didn't want to wake you up if i moved..." he chuckles and you smile up at him, feeling so lucky that you had him in your life, and so honoured he chose to spend literally all day with you.

when you felt stronger, he helped you get back up to your place, and he greeted your parents as well. They looked concerned for you, but happy that someone like him was with you all the way.  after you got situated in your own bed, you looked up him smiling at you from the doorway. you didn't want him to leave, but you knew he had his own things to attend to. he could see the look on your face, and gave you a hug, gently holding you in his arms for a moment. he kissed you on your cheek, and you said your goodbyes, promising to see each other again later.

as soon as he left, you missed him.
