When you wake up, in the wooden room, there is still no good light, but only an orange veil, which shows the blurry boundaries of things: a chair, with a blue ninja suit over it, a pair of flip flops, a green pitcher of water, a curved plant, and a sharp blade beside the futon. There isn't much else in the whole house.

The brown planks creak with every gust of wind, but not with your footsteps, and make for a warm ambiance, making up for the lack of furniture and trinkets usually found in people's homes.

Feel your muscles still numb from sleep. Outside, you start running. After crossing the wildest part of the forest, you arrive at the dirt path, on which sporadic clumps of grass grow. You can see azaleas and bamboo, there is a faint smell of cherry.

At your ankles you tied weights with bands. Two of the blades you are wearing clatter slightly, hidden by the sweatshirt. As soon as you stop they need to be fixed. The hair is pulled back into a bun, making the head feel heavy, and you get the feeling that it will soon start popping away from the scalp, like violin strings snapping on a final note. Yet it doesn't matter, you were taught, when you were little, to cover up any annoyance. The movements, elegant and fast, are all you need to focus on. You keep running, precise and light, until you've come down the mountain.

The ground underfoot first becomes gravel, then asphalt. It opens up in an ever wider margin. On the bend of the road there is a black car with its engine off. The sun is getting higher and hotter. When you go back up, you won't need the sweatshirt anymore.

A window is rolled down. An arm sticks out and extends a packet to you. You notice the dark sleeve of the jacket rising, protruding the watch and white gold bracelet.

The car restarts, you have the documents in hand. You browse them leaning against the guard rail. There they are, all the details of your next dirty assignment. You fold them into the pocket of the sweatshirt, which you tie at the waist, before starting to run again.

You smile, thinking about the face the man will make when he will notice that he no longer has his bracelet.
