Cotton Cookie continued to write letters to Sherbet Cookie, day in and day out. Each night, the villagers would gather around the tree and look up at the sky. They'd sigh wistfully and say things like, "He must be looking at us right now," or "I wonder if he's feeling happy yet." This routine went to a point that Sherbet Cookie became their village deity. One day, a wish message did find its way to Sherbet Cookie.
"A wish?" Sherbet Cookie asked.
Sherbet Cookie read the letter. "'To the Lost One [Sherbet Cookie], please come back to me,'" Sherbet Cookie read. "'My lantern has been lighting your path since you left, and so far, it hasn't stopped shining. I want to fly with you, and I want to feel free like you.'"
Sherbet Cookie murmured, "'She still remembers me.'"
Sherbet Cookie gazed at the lantern as it shined bright against the starry skies. Then, he looked up at the starry skies. It seemed like he could see the stars twinkling even brighter.
Sherbet Cookie flew over to where the tree was and visited to see Cotton Cookie. Sherbet Cookie met with Cotton Cookie and smiled at each other, and their hearts were filled with warmth.
"Thanks for taking care of me, Cotton Cookie. You've given me a lot of happiness," Sherbet Cookie told her.
"Thank you, Sherbet Cookie," she replied.
Just then, a gust of wind blew through the village, carrying along a single snowflake. It landed on Cotton Cookie's cotton-covered head, and melted away. A blizzard came and the presence of the Frost Queen entered into Sherbet Cookie.
"Hey, what's going on?!" Cotton Cookie shouted in surprise. But, she couldn't see anything except the ground beneath her feet.
"Uh oh..." Sherbet Cookie thought to himself. He saw and realized that Cotton Cookie had vanished. "Cotton Cookie?! Where did you go? Hey, Cotton Cookie, where are you!?"
The snow that fell from the sky was cold. It had frozen over all of the earth, transforming it into a white world.
"Cotton Cookie!" Sherbet Cookie cried out. "Come back, Cotton Cookie! Please come back!"
He took a deep breath and began to spin. His body quickly caught up to his imagination, and he transformed into a spirit.
Sherbet Cookie flew high into the air, looking for Cotton Cookie. He spotted the lantern in the distance, and remembered that Cotton Cookie had a lantern. "She would never leave her lantern behind."
Sherbet Cookie increased his speed and caught up with it. As he got closer, he saw that a small amount of snowflakes were covering the lantern. "She must really love it."
As he drew near, the lantern started to shine brightly. And when he reached out to touch it, he felt the warmth emanating from it.
The lantern's flame was burning out. "She must need my help. I need to hurry."
Sherbet Cookie flew even faster, and the flame slowly dimmed out of the lantern. And then, he arrived.
There, in front of him, was the light of the lamp. A small figure was standing beneath it. But something was strange about it.
It was Cotton Cookie. Her body was covered in frost, and she was gripping her cane with both hands tightly.
