I pray, I do not wish
1600- South Africa
Cape town, 04:30I woke with my face first to the floor.
My nose slightly bruised from the fall to the wooden surface. I sit up, hearing the frantic footsteps above me.I was sailing on this cursed ship for month now,but I knew this was the last morning that I'll be in this leaky room.
I was on official business for my father. I was to finally flex my wings after years of spending it at university. Of course,I have never been out of England.
And judging by the rumours I've heard of South Africa and it's reputation, I was nervous to say the least.
" Captain, we are approaching the port. "
"Excellent James! Prepare to dock, then we can get rid of this whining boy at last."I sigh and stand up. The captain and I wasn't exactly on good terms on this voyage.
Good riddance I'd say.I start to gather my things, hoping to be the first to get off. Sea life was always a pain for me,but that was life.
A few hours had passed since we docked at the pier. As I climbed off the boat, I felt the air almost immediately.
It was hot. Like, almost desert hot.
I have noticed some of the folks walking past that their necks are brunt bright red from the sun.
I hope I will not burn like that while I'm visiting.I asked some disgruntled man where an Inn was and he pointed me to a building overlooking the road. It was rundown and quite in a bad state, but I had no choice.
As I walked to the building, I heard a very loud scream. A woman's scream.
I whirled around to see a group of men harrassing a woman, pulling her hair and shoving her to the ground."Leave her be!" I yelled and placed my things near the wall, ran back to the men. "Please gentlemen leave the wo-"
"Fok off Engelsman!" I stumbled backwards, nearly unconscious. The men laughed and patted the ringleader when he punched me in my jaw.
They laughed as they walked away, spitting in my direction. After a few moments, I sat up and coughed, wiping the blood off my lip.
When I blinked for a bitI saw the girl cough and looked at me with wide eyes." Are you alright miss?" I choked out.
She mumbled something and
only looked at me, suddenly getting up. She looked one more time before sprinting down the street, her dress whipping behind her as she ran.I sighed. It didn't help I ran after her, I helped her that's it.
I got up slowly and held my head, which was pounding and sore.
I grabbed my things and went inside the Inn, hoping not to be bombarded by the over concerned staff.Right, first chapter completed.
