"Ugh, I can't believe we're having this conversation," Emily grumbled as she sat down on her bed next to Samantha.

"I know, it's not exactly how I imagined things going either," Samantha replied, her stomach doing flips.

"So, how are you feeling about Alex?" Emily asked, biting her bottom lip nervously.

"I don't know, I really like him, but I don't want to lose our friendship," Samantha said, her voice filled with uncertainty.

"Same here. I didn't expect to have these feelings for him," Emily admitted, her eyes welling up with tears.

"We have to talk about it, though. We can't just ignore what's going on," Samantha said, placing a comforting hand on Emily's shoulder.

"I know, you're right," Emily said, wiping away her tears. "So, what do we do?"

"I think we should both go on separate dates with him. That way we can figure out what we really want without feeling guilty," Samantha suggested.

"That makes sense. And we promise to be completely honest with each other, no matter how hard it may be," Emily added.

"Absolutely. And no matter what happens, our friendship will always come first," Samantha said, smiling at her best friend.

The two hugged tightly, feeling grateful for the strong bond they shared. They knew it wouldn't be easy, but they were willing to take the risk to figure out their feelings for Alex and make sure their friendship stayed intact.
