“Jay hurry up or you’ll be late!” I yelled.
“Just a little longer please?” Jay asked, yawning.
“Sorry but we’ve gotta get to work”
“Fine”
I smirked looking over at Jay who had finally gotten out of bed. He finished getting dressed and we left for the café where we work. I took off my jacket and hung it up looking behind me to see Jay struggling to tie the apron. I walked over to Jay grabbing the ties and tied it together, I laughed seeing Jay cross his arms. “I could have gotten it”
“Come on Jay let’s go start our shifts,” I said.
The door chimed and in walked the first customer of our shift. “Hello, welcome to the Mirror Café, what can we get you?” I asked, trying to sound chipper at five in the morning.
“Could I get the Strawberry Pearl,”asked the person at the counter.
“Of course what’s the name?” I said, hitting Jay in the side as I saw him checking out the customer.
“What?” he whispered.
“Uh Tim”
“Alright now Jaybird go make the drink”
“I told you not to call me that”
I saw Tim chuckle a bit, I honestly felt a little proud of myself. “How long have you been working here?” Tim asked.
“Around a year”
“Tim here you go,” said Jay, placing the plastic cup with our logo of two cats, one holding hot tea or coffee and the other holding a boba.
“Are you not a cat café?”
“No the owner just really likes cats”
“See you later,” Tim said, paying for his drink and leaving.
I looked around seeing nobody else had entered. Jay moving around some blue magic in his hand. “Jay knock it off,” I said.
“Jessica just look at it you can’t say it’s not pretty”
I looked at my seventeen year old friend and smiled, he wasn’t wrong, his magic was pretty. But the things he did with it could be considered dangerous to others. He sighed and made the magic dissipate, as a customer walked in. They wore a witch hunting uniform, “You get down on the ground,” they said pointing at Jay.
I saw his magic start to come out of his hands blasting it at the witch hunter. The blast pushed Jay back into a wall, “Jay!”
“I- I’m fine”
“You hit your head though how can you say you’re fine”
He got up shaking, walking out to the witch hunter. “Come here again and you won’t like me”
I saw his eyes and magic change to red before the witch hunter ran out, Jay collapsed to the ground coughing. “Jay! You need to be more careful when using your magic especially your blood magic”
“Jessica it’s fine,” I said coughing.
“Jay, it's not fine. You’re one of very few people with more than one form of magic and you know what blood magic can do to you”
I helped him up. He was heating up, I don’t like it when he uses this form of magic he gets really sick. We got in the car, Jay coughing trying to catch his breath. “Jay do I need to go to the hospital”
“No!” he said coughing.
I sighed as I parked. He got out and I saw him get into the apartment. I really hoped he was okay. Blood magic was very dangerous, yes to the person it was used on, but also on the user. It wouldn't kill him luckily but his body would grow weak.
