Opening his eyes, the rain stormed in again like never before. The crisp wind made him shiver just a bit but he realized quickly that he had somehow slept through the workers' arrival. Staring at the Open sign's reflection on the window, he heard the door open and watched as Jack walked through. They met eyes and both of their faces lit up as Jack waved. Jack walked over and sat in the same seat he sat in the day before and he closed up his umbrella and placed it beside him before he turned back to the man.
"Hey! Nice to see you again!"
The man nodded in agreement and waved despite his shivering. But Jack noticed almost immediately.
"You look cold. Here, hold on!"
Jack took off his jacket swiftly and handed it over. The man shook his head, not wanting to take someone's jacket. It feels almost selfish. Jack smiles and rolls his eyes before gesturing the jacket towards him again.
"Don't worry, I've got another long-sleeve on underneath my jacket anyway so I won't get cold. Take it! You look like you need it."
The man hesitates before holding the jacket. It's made of some sort of fabric that's not too soft yet not too rough. He slips the brown jacket on and stops shivering after a bit, the jacket protecting him from the chilliness.
"You can keep it, looks good on you."
The man smiles a bit.
"So anyway, what do you like to do? Maybe me and you could go and do something together when the rain clears up one of these days."
The man shrugs.
"Nothing at all? Games? Food? Reading?"
The man shrugs again.
"Here, I'll take you to the arcade next time we hang out and I have the money. Promise."
Jack extends a pinky and the man flinches, staring at him with fear.
"...It's a pinky promise. You wrap your pinky around mine and it's like making a deal or, in this case, a promise."
The man hesitated, gazing into Jack's eyes. The green hues in his eyes were almost hypnotizing when combined with the pink dyed tips of his hair. He then nodded and wrapped his pinky around Jack's.
"Okay, I gotta go now, okay? See you tomorrow!"
Jack waved again and wandered out of the diner.

Day after day, the day ended sort of bittersweetly but the man kept going, his mind not focused on how alone his nights were anymore but rather the next day.
And every day, Jack arrived with the same grin on his face as the man and they'd talk for perhaps hours before Jack had to go.

And the man was no longer alone.

Sure, he felt alone as the day disappeared and faded into night but he had something to look forward to now. A week passed and yet it seemed to rain almost every day. But he didn't mind. He didn't care about anything that annoyed him. He knew no matter what was around him, whether it was violence, or loud sounds, or just simple things that made him upset; he knew that once his new friend arrived once more, nothing else would matter.
