" What exactly are we doing?" You asked in a whisper, resting your head against the floor in Emily's direction. You were entirely confused as to why the first thing Emily wanted to do when you dropped your bags into a new apartment was lie on the carpet with your feet resting up on the couch.
" Shh, it's supposed to be grounding," she mumbled with her eyes still closed. You gave her a questioning look even though she didn't see it.
" Why? Because we're on the ground?" You scoffed before she reached over and elbowed you. " Ow! I'm not wrong!"
Her groan dissolved into a laugh as she sank her head into her hands. " Yeah well we're done with this, you're impossible," she concluded while sitting up. You sprang up, following her around.
You had only landed a few hours ago and your boxes were barely pushed in through the doorway, stacked up tall against the wall. It was a small but cozy place. The pale yellow walls were still empty, but Emily had already scattered a few vibrant plants around the place, even though she wasn't the one who could keep them alive.
There was one bedroom with two closets and Emily had already decided that one would be for any Lauren clothes, the second one would be split between you and you could have the small dresser if you needed it. So far you had brought enough clothes for around 6 months you guessed, but that didn't mean you wouldn't end up needing more eventually. The thought of the mission being dragged out longer scared you a bit, but you pushed down the fear for now.
You crumbled against the counter after a few steps, your body sore from the flight. You were always used to being on your feet, so long periods of being cramped up in a seat felt unbearable. " Everything hurts," you complained, using it as an excuse to rest your head on Emily's shoulder for comfort.
She knew what you were doing and patted your head with a mocking " Poor baby," while continuing to swipe thorugh the papers fanned out across the kitchen counter. You pulled her by the hips against you and she gave up with her task, turning around to kiss you. " Want me to help?" Before she could answer she spun you around and you had to brace your hands against the wall. You inhaled sharply as her cold hands slipped under your shirt, sliding up your back. She rolled her knuckles against the tight knots in your upper shoulders. " Why so quiet?" She commented after a few minutes when she realized you were biting your lip.
" Because I know if anything leaves my mouth, you'll make it dirty," you raised your head up until you could see her eyes to raise an eyebrow at her.
She chuckled knowing you were reading her mind. " You know me too well." Helping you on the counter she stood between your legs as she returned to the work in front of her. Smiling, you watched the way her face scrunched when her eyes skimmed the paper.
You occasionally tipped your head forward to kiss her neck or play with the hem of her shirt. With the exception of a small pause whenever you touched her, she didn't react.
You got overexcited when she slid the papers aside until she spoke." We've got to get going. Are you going to be ready?" She walked into the bedroom reappearing in cargo pants and brown button up. " Contact is meeting us at the bar at 6."
You reluctantly picked up your jacket, concealing a gun at your side. You weren't eager to be involved with any part of this situation and were going solely to make sure Emily was safe.
The bar was small and dimly lit, and all the dark brown countertops and and stools didn't help brighten the place up. The air was stale and sour, instantly replacing the pleasant scent of Emily's perfume you had inhaled from bring tucked under her arm as you walked down the street.
