CHAPTER 3
The realization hit me like a wall of bricks. A ginormous heavy bag of bricks.
My mate was here. Right in front of me. I blinked a few times, trying to make the dream in front of me disappear. I even rubbed my eyes.
Nope. Still there.
I was stunned, what was I supposed to even say?
My mate however, did not seem to have this problem.
"How did you find me?" He hissed.
I blinked.
Well I wasn't expecting him to praise the ground I walked on or sweep me into his arms and kiss me senseless if we met again, but I certainly did not imagine for him to straight up show his annoyance of seeing me again.
"F-f-find you?" I stammered as I got up from the ground, a vast difference still between our heights.
He gave me a look as if I was the most clueless person on the world. "Yes, how did you find me?
How did you know who I was?"
Who he was? What did that have anything to do with where we were? I was quite confused, and I could not wrap my brain around all that was happening too quickly.
I let his scent engulf me for a while, and I caught myself thinking that I would give anything to be near this scent all day and all night.
Focus at the matter at hand, Troye!
I snapped back into reality and my train of thought. What was he asking again?
"Well?" My mate was impatiently tapping his barefoot, and his tone of exasperation was evident in his voice.
I suddenly remembered what he asked, and pieced what I knew with his question together. "You mean a vampire? Of course I know! How could I not know? You were sucking the freaking blood out of the deer when we met!" Majorly creepy, I added in my head.
I made to move backwards, suddenly aware of our proximity.
However, I stopped when I saw his blue grey eyes, daring me to move. I scooched backwards a bit, just to try to put a bit of distance between us.
I was reminded of the dangers vampires posed to werewolves, but no matter how much my brain was urging me to move, and to run or seek help, I stayed rooted to the stop. Call it false hope, but I didn't for a second doubt that he would hurt me.
I was confused as to why he was even here. Vampires aren't invited to the ball. No werewolf in their right mind would invite a vampire into his house!
"Why are you even here?"
He growled and suddenly he had closed the distance between us again. I automatically looked down, not wanting to be sucked into his eyes. Wait was that a growl?
"Look at me when I am talking to you." His voice quiet and deadly as ever, distracting me from my thoughts. He made to touch my chin to angle it up towards his face but he flinched away the moment we made contact. Despite the fact that I was supposed to be scared shitless right now, I was mad and hurt. I know that he recognized me as his mate.
I felt the sparks when he touched me for that brief moment, and I'm sure he felt it too. So why wouldn't he accept me? What was wrong with me? Was I not good enough for him? My mind was whirling with thoughts of insecurity and incomprehension and it was becoming all too unbearable.
I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out.
Courage, I told myself. Have courage. This would change the rest of my life.
