CHAPTER 4

Before I knew it, tears were falling out of my eyes. I didn't understand what I had done to deserve this neither did I understand how he could so readily close me off from his life if he didn't even know me. I knew he felt the connection as I did. Mates were seen as precious things, so how could he leave me? Twice?

The thing that confused me most was - why hasn't he rejected me yet? Why isn't he letting me move on with my life? It felt like he was torturing me to spend all eternity with thoughts of his unattainability in my head.

"Troye! I've been looking for you everywhere!" I heard the familiar voice of Teagan calling and I was torn away from my train of thought. I quickly wiped away my tears and turned to look at her. "What's the matter?"

"Didn't you just hear that announcement? Wait - why are you eyes so puffy?"

"I.. uhmm..." I hesitated. Luckily, Troye didn't seem to notice and was too busy trying to pull me away.

"Never mind that, we have to get you safe! Come on!"

Safe? From what? Elian Stark? I opened my mouth to ask questions, but Teagan quickly cut in, saying that she didn't know about anything either, and that finding and bringing me back were my father's orders.

When we reached the ballroom, all the dancing had stopped. Everyone was organized into their own packs and were discussing things in a frenzy. When my father, or should I say, Alpha, saw me, he breathed out a sigh of relief. "Thank God. Troye, where were you? I was so worried!" He gave a nod of thanks to Teagan.

He glanced around our pack and huddle. "Everybody's here. Good." I quickly pulled him aside, and asked, "What's going on? What's up with— Why are we— I dont understand—" I couldn't form a coherent thought so in the end my question ended up as, "Elian Stark?"

My father seemed to understand though. "Well this isn't information known to many, but Elian Stark, as you know, lives in the Royal Mansion, which is here, but instead of being the introvert that everyone thinks he is, he's actually not really allowed to leave his room. When he is, he's heavily monitored by guards."

"That's horrible! Why?" I exclaimed, not wanting to imagine a life without any freedom.

"Well firstly, he has a really bad temper, and you really don't want to anger him. He's a hybrid. The first ever. He's capable of things that most of us cannot even dream of!"

"So you're just going to lock him inside his room forever? I can't believe you!" An indescribable and unexplainable protectiveness came over me. It was like I cared for the wellbeing of a person I never even met.

"Sweetie, we're not the ones who are locking him in, its his parents choice. In fact, he also agrees with that decision."

"That doesn't make it okay! He's a supernatural being like all of us!" I yelled in frustration. A few heads turned to look at us. "I'm going out for some air." I said. My father immediately refused, but I left anyways, not heeding to his cries of my name.

I could not understand why anyone would choose a life of isolation. I felt sorry for Elian and his family. They had to constantly watch their foot steps so to not let any information out.
