"Please, it was just me. Just me, man" Jake pleaded with his hands outstretched in surrender. "You don't have to do this"

Her feet suck into the mud, frozen as terror consumed her. "Daniel" she trembled out, desperation flooding from her call to him. A gun weighed in her hands, feeling unable to lift it.

"You don't got the balls, little girl" Daniel cackled, "even if you did pull that damn trigger, I'd still pull mine" he taunted, waving his gun at Jake with his finger resting on the trigger.

"Munchkin, it's okay. It's okay. Just look at me-" His brown eyes met hers dimming as his body recoiled backward. His lips moved, words muffled by the piercing ringing invading her eardrums. The currents of the river welcomed his falling body, tugging his crumbling form mercilessly down under.

Manic laughter bubbled from Daniel's smirking lips, echoing in the deadly silent air. It bounced in her skull, echoing so loud she thought her eardrums would burst.

Air hit her lungs, gasping for oxygen as she jolted upward. Her fingers clawing at her neck, heart lodged up in her throat. Green eyes wildly searching in panic.

All that met her sight was darkness. Completely alone in the solitude of her bedroom. Blankets kicked off her shaking frame.

Her palms rubbed at her face, feeling the remnants of tears on her cheeks. Her breaths were heavy as tried to calm her heart rate, "Fuck" she whispered, rolling off the bed.

Her feet light, wincing at the groans of the floorboards as she tried to silently make it to her door. The door knob clicking as she twisted it, her green eyes carefully peering into the dark hall. Her irregular breaths filled the silence of the house, quickly tip-toeing across the hall into the bathroom.

The hiss of streaming water from the faucet hit filled her senses, a white noise that did little calm her. She cupped her hands under the cold water, splashing her face. Stings pinching at her flesh, muscles kickstarted awake and her initial tiredness fading for the moment.

"You're no different from me" Daniel appeared in the reflection of the mirror. Caden met his beady eyes, her hands latching onto the bathroom vanity, knuckles turning white as she suppressed the rise of violent anger. "Percy. Hillary. Mike. They did nothing"
