When Regina had moved to America, she'd hoped it wouldn't turn out into some sort of teen drama show, yet here she was, the new girl in high school, falling for the hot vampire in her class. She wanted to bang her head against the wall with how cliché it sounded, but she couldn't deny it. Not the vampire part – which was still weird to her – and not the fact that she'd fallen for Emmett Cullen. The only bit of comfort she took from the situation was knowing that Bella had found herself in the exact same position.
Apparently, the shy brunette had figured the vampire bit out on her own and was dating Edward Cullen. Regina still didn't get how Bella figured it out on her own nor how she believed it so easily. Even with finding Waylon's body and seeing Emmett's increased speed and strength, she had a hard time coming to terms with it all. Emmett had literally told her he was a vampire, tried convincing her, and still she'd denied it.
She'd come to terms with it now, not being able to deny the truth any longer, but that didn't mean she was still a bit freaked out by the mere idea. It helped that something about Emmett made her feel comfortable and safe. She only had to remember and focus on that, and she'd manage to ease her mind. Emmett was very mindful about it too. After the first time he'd moved at his own speed around her and she'd gotten spooked at the sudden movement, he'd stopped doing that. Regina appreciated it. She didn't necessarily want Emmett to have to accommodate her like that, but she couldn't help it. It freaked her out. Maybe once she got used to it a bit more...
Either way, until that time came, Emmett kept things human for her. So human even that they were now officially a couple. During their talk by the river, he'd asked her if she still wanted to be his girlfriend and, after a moment's thought, she decided that she did. So, on Monday morning, Emmett had met her at her car, helping her out by offering a hand, and he hadn't let go of her hand since. That's how the entire school – minus Jessica, who'd obviously heard it first on Sunday – had found out. Regina still couldn't get used to the amount of gossip in American high schools, but she was rolling with it, figuring things out as she went.
The shrill noise of the bell made Regina blink and snapped her out of her thoughts. Her last class of the day had quite literally passed her in a blur and Regina shook her head as she gathered her stuff. Once she exited the classroom, she found Emmett already waiting on her. He'd made a habit out of it.
"Hey, princess." He pressed a kiss to her temple, wrapping an arm around her shoulder and, after dropping some books off at her locker and gathering those needed for her homework, he'd walked her to her car. Halfway there, they were stopped in their tracks by an excited blur the appeared in front of them slightly faster than she should.
Alice grinned at them, ignoring her brother's eyeroll. "Hey, Regina. How's it going?"
"Hi, Alice," Regina smiled. She was slowly getting used to Alice's sudden and perky appearances. She kept herself at a speed that wasn't too startling for Regina. Besides, she'd been making those appearances a lot ever since Regina and Emmett became a thing and Regina had found out about them. She was slowly getting used to it. "Good. How about you?"
Alice opened her mouth to answer, but was cut off by Emmett, "What are you trying at, Alice?"
"What? Can't I just say hi?" Alice looked very innocent, and it reminded Regina of Jo, who was great at acting all sweet and innocent whenever it suited her. Judging by the look Emmett threw her, Alice was known for doing the same thing. "Alright, fine. When are you gonna invite her over? You know Esme has been asking. Now that she knows, it's much more fun."
Regina's lips twitched and looked over at Emmett with a raised eyebrow. "Yeah, Em, when are you gonna invite me over?" She wasn't too bothered, but she'd take the chance to taunt Emmett any day.
