Hiccup changed. He's no longer the frail boy he was 5 years ago on Berk- although he's gained muscle, he still isn't burly like his father. He's no longer the boy who stutters in the face of someone larger than him, someone who intimidates him. He keeps his composure; he commands a room. People do not know him as 'Hiccup Haddock the Useless', they know him as The Dragon Master, The Dragon Whisperer, He who rides the Night Fury, The Man in Night Fury scale armor, He who wields the sword of fire. He is not the same. His name can be found in whispers of awe, curiosity, and fear. They say he has a stone heart, but that's not true. His heart beats for two- one being Toothless, the other being-
==========
"Toothless, you know that doesn't wash out!" Hiccup said in between laughs. Toothless was on top of Hiccup after knocking him to the ground, licking his clothes playfully as he had done many times before. He'd eventually stopped and allowed Hiccup to rise. Hiccup attempted to wipe his clothes, but he was greeted with slobber that stuck to his hands. He'd shot a lighthearted glare toward Toothless, who was staring at him with his eyes fully dilatated. He looked like a cat, which had earned Toothless a laugh from Hiccup.
Had he mentioned he found his mother? Well, his mother found him.
At that moment, Valka walked in, cloudjumper close behind. Toothless went to mess around with Cloudjumper, as Valka walked toward Hiccup, stopping a few feet in front of him.
"I've received a terror mail from the Berserkers, they need your assistance in some planning and such. Nothing urgent." She'd said in a calm tone. She handed him the Terror Mail.
"Alright, I'll pack up and head out now. I have nothing else to do today," Hiccup said as he read the Terror Mail. Valka nodded and called for Cloudjumper, promptly flying away. Toothless moved inside the hut before sitting down. He looked at Hiccup and cooed. Hiccup looked to Toothless.
"Well, it's a bit unexpected but not inconvenient, and it won't hurt to help with a few planning things," Hiccup had said to nobody but Toothless. Turning his attention back to his slobber covered clothes, he sighed. "I'm going to change first, though."
After he'd changed into his Dragonscale armor, he and Toothless took off, heading for Berserker Island. For the time being, he was leaving the Edge, a place he had made to be sanctuary for dragons, wild and trained alike. The place was beautiful. It was built on mountainsides and stilts, with a walkway in between huts, the main clubhouse, the stables, and other buildings alike. The sun was high in the sky.
==========
Berserker Island was thriving. Their newfound peace with the dragons was allowing advances in technology and less everyday deaths. He'd landed near the dragon stables only to be greeted by Heather and Windshear. Hiccup dismounted Toothless and as soon as he did, Toothless went over to play with Windshear.
"I wasn't expecting you until tomorrow," Heather said, as she'd walked to Hiccup.
"Yeah, I read it wasn't urgent but there was nothing going on on the Edge so I figured-"
"No need for explanation," Heather interrupted. "It's good to see you, Hiccup." Heather smiled and hugged Hiccup. The hug only lasted for a few seconds before they both pulled away.
"Dagur needed some 'professional' help in designing some things related to Dragons. He cant settle for anything less than your designs," she'd said with a tone of saltiness and jokes. "I'm sure you could go talk to him now about it, he wouldn't mind. Probably."
Hiccup slighly laughted at the remark. "Thanks for the heads up."
He'd tended to Toothless before leaving for the Berserker version of the great hall. He pushed the great doors aside, to be met with commotion, with Dagur being in the center. Hiccup made an educated guess that these were the supposed architects and the higher ups of the Berserker village. As soon as the doors opened and Hiccup walked through, Dagur noticed.
"Ah, brother!"
Dagur said loudly as he stood, commanding the room to silence. The room looked to Hiccup, but they didn't know him by that name. They looked to him and were met by a tall man, a slim but muscular figure dressed in night fury scale armor, the sword of fire attached to his side, and helmet on. He walked forward. People made room for him. Even without the presence of his Night Fury, his appearance spoke enough.
With a wave of his hand, Dagur dismissed everyone from the room. They were gone in a matter of minutes.
"You needed my help with architectural things, Dagur?"
"Yes, yes."
They talked about architectural designs for the next two hours. The conversation finally ended, as Hiccup ended it. They had reached a conclusion, and Hiccup wanted to go on a nightly ride. Dagur waved him off in understanding.
Hiccup entered the stables to find Heather, Windshear, and Toothless. He'd walked over to Toothless and fed him a fish, which Toothless gladly accepted.
"Hiccup, you should know.."
Hiccup turned to Heather, waiting for her to continue.
"It's about Berk," she said with a sigh. Hiccup stood at the mention of Berk, and Toothless got up with him, following his rider.
Hiccup had his helmet removed by now, as he faced Heather.
"What about Berk?" He'd inquired.
"The raids have been getting worse as of late. They can't keep a food supply for long."
Hiccup paused and looked away from Heather. He looked back before responding.
"Alright."
Thats all he said before he put his helmet back on, hopped on Toothless, and took off.
==========
Hiccup enjoyed his nightly ride, usually. This time, he was pressured with a choice. Does he go back to Berk and help them or does he not? He thinks of the people he left behind 5 years ago. He can't leave them to starve, can he?
In the midst of his thinking, he didn't realize he was getting closer to Berk by the minute until he saw a faint red-orange glow in the distance. It was then he realized it was Berk,
"I can't leave them to burn, bud."
Toothless gave a small, unthreatening growl in response as they picked up speed. They were gliding quickly above Berk in a matter of minutes.
"There, bud. Just shoot a plasma blast in between fighting Vikings and dragons, just to break 'em up. Try not to hurt either."
Toothless warbled, as did what his rider had said. Soon, calls were heard as heads shot up as the whistle of the Night Fury were heard.
"Night Fury, get down!"
