He remembered that day like it was yesterday. He was in his brother's room playing with their brand-new superhero figurines when the sound of a vehicle beeping outside caught their attention. He had just pressed his palms against the chilly window when the sound of their mother calling them had them scrambling down the stairs.
His brother helped him put on his shoes and jacket before running outside, just in time to see his mother conversing with an unfamiliar-looking man while a woman helped two young girls out of the back of the moving van.
"Oh Aki, Kei," his mother's gaze softened ever-so-slightly when she spotted the brothers. "Say hello to our new neighbors."
His brother nodded and puffed out his chest. "Hello! My name is Tsukishima Akiteru, and this is my brother, Kei," he lowered his head. "Nice to meet you!"
The young man laughed heartily. His brown hair seemed to shimmer a little in the winter sun. "Well, hello there," he bent down to get on eye level with the boys. "Nice to meet you, Akiteru-kun. We're the Hoshizawa family and we're moving in right next door," he pointed at the large house that had been empty for as long as he could remember. "My name is Keisuke. Please take care of us, m'kay?"
"Of course!"
Keisuke grinned. "I'm counting on you!" He ruffled the boy's hair who seemed all too thrilled by these new developments. "Here, let me introduce you to my kids. According to your mother, they're about the same age as you two as well."
"Really?" Akiteru's eyes brightened while Kei shuffled in his boots. Between the two of them, Akiteru was definitely more of the social butterfly.
"Yep," his mother smiled. "They're what? Three and Ten?"
"Four and Ten, actually," the young woman, presumably Keisuke's wife, approached holding one little girl while the other walked by her feet. "So they're the exact same age as your kids."
"My, what a coincidence!"
The woman set the younger child in her arms down on the ground and smiled at the brothers. "I'm Tsubomi, Keisuke's wife. And these are my daughters."
"I'm Hoshizawa Hirari," the older girl, a little taller than Akiteru, lowered her head politely. "Nice to meet you."
"And my name is Hoshizawa Amane!" The smaller girl spoke up. Despite being the smallest, her voice probably rang the clearest in the cold winter air. Both she and her sister inherited their father's maroon brown hair and their mother's ocean-blue eyes. But somehow, hers seemed to shine the brightest. "Hoshi as in star, Zawa as in swamp, Ama as in sky and Ne as in music," she grinned. "Nice to meet you! Let's get along from now on, alright?"
She extended a hand out toward Tsukishima Kei.
He remembered that day like it was yesterday. That day, a brilliant, shining star crash-landed on his world.
