Preface

It all started with a message. Ok, that's a lie. It all started when I broke up with my dreaded ex-boyfriend. I'd finally seen the last of him and now I was finally going to get the old me back. I'd have more time for friends and family, I'd also have more time to work on my short stories.
I couldn't wait. That is until one small, little message appeared on my phone screen. The one message that sent my world crashing into spiral tunnel of golden eyes and perfect lips.
~*~
Dear Diary,
I've decided to take a stand in my own life. I've decided to write a list of rules. These rules will help me through the utterly embarrassing moments of my life and will help me discover who I am and what I want. These rules will also keep me away from dating jerks. I'm one of those girls who stays up late - cuddled under a thousand blankets that act as a fort - sitting, reading up online about 'How to attract men? How to get noticed? What colours to wear?' I'm officially done with it. Finally, I'm going to take control back in my own life and not let myself fantasise about Mr Right...
Sorry, had to stop writing then to check out one of the young builders across the street. And as I've just noticed, I have a stupid, wiggly pen mark streaked across my face from where I let myself daydream.
This is exactly what I'm talking about! I need to focus on my career and myself. These rules - that I have randomly invented - will help me successfully find myself and maybe a very rich, handsome man in the process. In all circumstances, these dating rules will see me through every awkward conversation, every cosmo and every late night sneaking in without my parents noticing.
Rules :
1. Never let a guy make you feel nervous. (Nerves before a first date is expected but moving past those.) Always feel confident in your own skin.
2. If he picks you up, make sure he knocks the door. Make sure he doesn't text you to let you know he's outside. That's just laziness.
3. Make sure to reveal enough skin to show that you're a women, but wear enough clothes to show that you're a lady.
4. Always offer to pay, even though you've probably left your credit card in your underwear drawer at home.
5. Never, I repeat NEVER go home with your date the first time he asks. He will think you're easy.
6. Always wait at least an hour before texting guys back. Leave them wanting more is always the answer.
7. Never rush into anything. Casual dating is the best, no need for commitment and over obsessing about one guy.
8. Play coy. Don't give too much away, always add a little mystery and never answer straight on questions. This makes the guy think he's earned the answer, as he's had to work for it. It also adds to zero awkward silences.
9. Never show your moody self in front a potential date. The more fun you are, the more time they will want to spend with you.
10. Remember, guys will be guys. They may not call or text all the time because they are weird like that. Just remember you are a goddess and you need to own it in every situation!
These rules will help me survive the horror of dating and will guide me toward gaining control of my life. One step at a time.
