Imagine being able to say you were going on tour with Harry Styles? I'm not joking, I really am. But not in the way people might think. I'm going to be working for the tour, as a nanny, childminder or babysitter, whatever way you want to say it. There are two children that tour with the band that I'll get to look after, so I won't exactly be working with or for Harry Styles directly, but he will be on the same tour and that is still very cool. I grew up liking One Direction, I actually saw them in concert twice, my teenage self is very pleased to say the least.I have met with the families and the two children, one is a two year girl named Mollie, she is the daughter of one of the tour managers or something like that. And the other is an 8 month old baby boy, named Finn who is the son of two of the band members, they're all so lovely and the kids are cute, we had a meet up session and then another play date type session after the initial interviews, and I managed to get the job. The parents must have liked me.
Right now I am on my way to the airport, I have all of my tickets and documentation, some of the other crew will be there, I'm not sure if the band and Harry are flying today too, I think they might already be in America, probably. I've been in touch with Andy, another one of the tour managers, he seems to be the guy who sorts out all of the flights and accommodation, all I had to do was give him my passport details, and he sent me an itinerary for the whole tour, all of my flights and hotels were booked well in advance.
I was so glad I didn't have to sort any of that.
This is my first time going to America, the furthest I've ever been is to Spain on holiday with some friends a few years back, just a week in the sun, a budget holiday of sorts.
I'm a bundle of nerves, new jobs are scary but this is on another level, I only found out that I got the job two weeks ago, so I had to pack and sort everything out within those days, trying to decide what to pack was so hard. I didn't want to have too much luggage but this tour was for almost the whole year, it was America first, then Australia and Asia and then the UK and Europe, a log of places to travel, but with breaks in between.
When I get to the airport the taxi driver helps me with my suitcase and I go inside, Heathrow is massive, I don't expect to see anyone that I'll be working with, I wouldn't recognise them anyway. I check in and go through security, I have access to the lounge with my ticket so I go straight there. It's very fancy, and it's almost empty, there's only a table of about six people over near the window, a couple on a table in the middle of the room and a few single people spread about.
There's no sign of Harry Styles, I don't think he's going to be on my flight unfortunately, I was hoping to see him kind of straight away, and get that over with, I'm afraid I'll make a fool of myself and they'll fire me straight away.
My flight to New York is in just over an hour so I set my bag down and go up to the counters and get myself a cinnamon swirl and some crisps, as well as a bottle of apple juice. There's a lot of options for food and drinks, but I'm not too hungry, I think I'm too nervous to be hungry.
I think the group of people by the window are going to be on the same flight as me, I am pretty sure they are part of the crew, they've mentioned New York and shows etc. I want to go and ask, try to introduce myself, but I'm too nervous to do that, so I just sit by the wall and eat my snacks and drink my apple juice until my flight is called to board.
The flight time was just under seven hours, it felt longer, I was so restless on the flight, I don't love flying but I wouldn't say that I was afraid, it wasn't feeling anxious or anything about the flight itself, but about this new journey.
