I will tell you one thing, jetlag sucks. It really, really sucks. I woke up at just after two in the morning. And now I can't get back to sleep, I scrolled on my phone for a while before my stomach started gurgling, I had no food or anything to even drink in my room. I sighed and threw my legs out of the bed, the comfiest bed I think I've ever slept in, but yet my body wouldn't let me sleep anymore. My body is screaming with tiredness, I am exhausted and my limbs feel stiff.
I peek through the curtains, the city is still lit up, and is bustling with life. I can see people walking about on the streets below and traffic fills the road. There are so many yellow taxis everywhere, it's really typical New York.
I'd love to go out and head back for more tacos, but I know that is not a safe option, I'm not stupid.I instead pull on my leggings and hoody ensemble from earlier again and grab my phone and keycard, I walk quietly down the corridor hoping to find a vending machine somewhere, to grab a snack for now.
It takes me to walk all the way around to the other side of my floor until I see a sign for vending machines, pointing to a separate room just a few steps away, also where the ice machine is.
"Oh... hi, sorry." I say when I literally bump into someone who was on there way out of room, carrying a bucket of ice which when I bump into them moves and some ice falls out, and of course an ice cube bounces right onto my bare foot, which was probably a bad idea, probably kind of gross actually to be walking around barefoot, but my mind didn't think to put on shoes, or even socks apparently.
"Ow!" I yelp a little, the ice cutting cold into my bare skin, making me jump and shake my foot.
"Oh, sorry... I didn't see you there." He says, and when I look up I see Harry Styles looking down at me, this is the second time tonight that I've actually ran into him, like kind of physically ran into him.
"It's okay, sorry. I didn't think anyone was in here. I'm just coming to get a snack..." I tell him and watch him eye me a little suspiciously.
"I saw you earlier too...?" He asks right away, and I feel like I'm doing something wrong "are you staying here or...?"
Oh god, he thinks I'm a fan or someone stalking him. This is so embarrassing.
"Uh...uh yeah, yeah, I'm staying here. I wouldn't be walking around barefoot if I wasn't!" I say and look to my feet, which makes him look down at my feet too and now I really feel like walking around barefoot in a fancy hotel was not the best idea and pointing it out was even worse.
"Oh... yeah, true I guess." He says, and he's definitely grossed out and weirded out, he's still looking at me funnily, like I'm a crazy person.
"I'm... part of the tour." I tell him, I really want him to know that I am not stalking him, or a weirdo that he should be worried about, that I belong here. "My name is Ria..."
"Oh? Oh sorry... I didn't realise... hi." he says then.
I nod, "I only got here today, or well yesterday. I'm a nanny, for Finn and Mollie." I add then, as if he doesn't know the kids.
"Ah yes, I remember Mitch was talking about you. That's so great." He smiles, "I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier. I'm Harry. It's been pretty busy."
I nod, "oh don't worry, that's okay. I just wanted to let you know, that I wasn't you know... stalking you or anything." I say and laugh awkwardly. "It probably seemed like that..."
He chuckles then and I cringe, I need to stop talking to this man now. I am making a fool of myself.
"That's okay, I get you." He smiles, "I didn't think you were a stalker, my security is usually better than that at hotels." He smiles, "you're good, love. I was just not able to sleep, I'm taking this very full ice bucket back to try an ice bath to relax." He says.
"Ah... that sounds fun..." I say even though it really does not sound one bit fun.
He chuckles again, "it's good for the body, sorry about your foot though." He says, "and just a FYI there are slippers in the bathrooms." He says jokingly, and looks down at his own feet, a pair of hotel white slippers on them. "Oh and welcome to the tour." He adds before he walks away.
"Yes, slippers..." I nod and am certain that my cheeks are pink from a blush. Thankfully he doesn't look back as he carries his ice bucket to wherever his room is.
I move over to the vending machine and let the door close behind me, there are a lot of options, crisps and chocolate and sweets, I love the look of it all, the American stuff is all so exciting.
I grin and choose a packet of bbq lays and some twizzlers, they seem very American, I lay with the contactless option on my phone and get a Dr Pepper from the drinks vending machine and then go back to my room.
I make a point of going to the bathroom and take the slippers out of the plastic and pop them on my feet, giggling to myself before I go to the bed and switch on the TV, watching a random movie I found and eating my snacks.
At some stage I fall back to sleep, the snacks still beside me on the bed, sleeping another few hours until it's actually morning and more reasonable hour to wake up, I still feel a little tired, but much less tired than I had been.
