PREVIOUSLY ON AFTERGLOW . . . as the night is getting near its end, Mat returns from the dead. The group enters the carnival master's funhouse to cleanse the next artifact. While getting captured by its caretaker, Vivienne and Mat spark and spend time together. Safiya and Ro escape and vote two into the challenge to die—or so they think. But the funhouse uses different rules. Safiya gets gutted from a fishhook by the funhouse's caretaker, causing a rift in the group.

THE SURVIVING MEMBERS WERE SEPARATED IN THREE PAIRS.
Group one being Manny and Nikita. Group two being Rosanna and Matthew. Group three was Joey and Vivienne.
"It wasn't fair, Ro, she didn't have a chance..." Matthew told Rosanna, the two were sitting on a couch. Nikita and Manny leaned on a pinball machine, gossiping. Joey and Vivienne were discussing with each other, wondering how they could forgive and forget to solve clues.
"I'm so sick of this. I'll just stand up and say it to myself." Joey muttered.
"Okay, go you," Vivienne easily went with it.
"Okay guys, enough! None of us will get out of here alive if we don't start working together." Vivienne stood up with Joey.
Joey: In one hand we have Nikita and Manny who are acting like the mean girls of the group. Then there's mat and Ro who are like the Boy Scouts. And then there's me and Vivienne! Vivienne is dating one of the Boy Scouts and not taking sides, but we both just want to get home!
"Look, Mat, I know you maybe don't like me." Nikita stood up.
"I never said I didn't. I just don't like the side of you that im starting to see come out, okay?" Matthew replied.
Rosanna: I can see both sides, but I definitely understand where mat is coming from. There's absolute no shame in being a survivor, then there's also a choice to gloat about it and smile when your friends die.
"You seem darker, more competitive." Matthew stared.
"You don't understand what I was going through." Nikita said.
"He literally died, but okay." Vivienne whispered to Joey, making him covering his mouth trying to hide his chuckle.
"I do!" Matthew yelled.
"Alright guys we don't have time for this. It's useless to try and make you two get along, but we gotta find this artifact and survive, let's look at the map and see what we have to do." Vivienne spoke, fed up.
Matpat: We have to move forward with the mission, we pull the map off the wall and we see that there's suddenly three new areas here.
