Leap

As I lay crying
I am black and blue
This needs to stop
But what can I do?

Walking through the door
With a belt in hand
I breathe a deep breath
And begin to stand

Ready to take a hit
I clutch my fists tight
When he squeeze the belt
His nuckles turn white

It flies through the air
And strikes at my arm
His smile is cruel
As he brings me harm

He strikes again
And I let out a cry
When he leaves the room
On the floor I again lie

I stand up once again
Run my fingers over eyes
I'm ready to be done
Enough of my nightly cries

I grab the rope
And then the chair
Tying a noose
Knowing he doesn't care

I slide on the rope
Take a breath
Step onto the chair
And leap to my peaceful death
